How do clownfish avoid the stinging cells of sea anemones?

Clownfish have an external mucus layer which protects them.

As the following New Scientist article somewhat indelicately puts it: "the secret's in the snot!"
Chemical changes in the mucus that coats a clownfish's body can blunt the sting of its symbiotic anemone partner.
