"The dog ate my homework!"

John Steinbeck had a setter pup called Toby. Apparently Toby had a liking for paper and he managed to turn half of Steinbeck's first draft of "Of Mice and Men" into confetti. It took the author two months to redo the lost sections of manuscript.
