The Thompson-Neely House served as an army hospital for Washington's troops during the 1777-1778 campaign. A particular patient whose life was probably saved at the Thompson-Neely House is James Monroe who would later become the 5th president of the United States. The house is now a part of the Washington Crossing Historic Park.
