Stanford puts a giant roadblock in USC's hopes of a National Title, taking them out 21-14.

Notre Dame gives early hope to its nation of fans with a big win at Michigan State 20-3.

Western Kentucky went for 2 against Kentucky in OT and won the game 32-31.

The small conference teams are playing with an all out attitude, running, diviing and crashing into the line with abandon, going for it on 4th downs, trick plays, going for 2 when they don't need to. This makes for exciting games and is putting the pressure on the bigger schools not to overlook them. I think Boise State may have stated a new trend and them and teams like TCU, East Carolina and Appalachin State in recent years have given hope to the upstarts and belief that they can win and not to just roll over with awe.

Great win for the Irish over Michigan State! Boise State plays BYU this Thursday - guess we'll see if they've made progress (actually, they should have beaten Michigan State as well).

Boise is breaking in a new QB. People forget Kellen was a four-yeat starter. They'll be back, though. They have a committment there. I think the smaller-named schools winning has much to do with scholarship limitations. With ony 85 schoarships and only 25 per year being allowed, some of the "other" schools can offer scholarship to recruits after the big schools use their allotment.

Here's a vid from Alabama at Nebraska from 1977. Dr. Tom threw the kitchen sink during this game! I hope you guys enjoy it.

I TOTALLY LOVE the Big 8 diamond at the 50-yard line! Way cool!

Yes. Curtis Craig was Roger Craig's older brother. If you notice, he wore 33 at NU, the same as what Roger wore with San Fran. He wore 21 as a Husker.

cubswin--What are all the posts about coach Bo for? He has been released from the hospital and he is back at work.

Those posts are from that same day. I watched off of the DVR, so I was a few hours behind.

My Fresno State Bulldogs whipped the Colorado Buffalos 69-14, breaking several school records while they were at it.

Man, CU has really gone downhill over the last few years. I really wonder if the admin there is really commited to football anymore.

You are right about the Buffaloes 'Big Ten Dave'. I'm almost ashamed to admit that I'd forgotten them over the last few years. What is the problem with that program, really?

Does the "sit out one play if your helmet comes off" rule really promote player safety? I think it's the most ridiculous thing the NCAA has come up with lately.

abechstein, I have to agree. It's just a window dressing to a deeper issue, in the hopes of avoiding lawsuits. Their excuse is that it'll get players to secure their helmets better, but really how often is a player injured when they lose their helmet? It also isn't often that a player that suffers a concussion or serious injury loses their helmet in the process either, so that excuse is not a valid one.

I think the worse thing thing about it is the refs stop the game to announce to the stadium that the player has to leave the field...which is completely unnecessary. The player knows it, the coaches know it, they don't need to stop the game to announce it to everyone.

All that said, I'm late to the thread, so I'd like to say Go 'Noles! :P

On CU: I think the admin there has always wanted CU to be "Berkley East". Also, the Broncos pretty vacuum up all of the football dollars and attention in the area.

I thought I remembered reading something in the past about how CU wanted to become known for academics first. Not sure when that was, or where, but I do remember seeing something like that.

It's a shame really, the offensive coordinator there is Eric Bieniemy, who I think has a lot of talent. He was the running backs coach here with the Vikings and did a great job...was actually hoping he'd be named OC here. But his alma mater came calling and I don't blame him for going.

Some top notch match-ups tomorrow.

ACC Clemson at Florida State

Pac-12 Arizona at Oregon

Non-con Michigan at Notre Dame

Big-12 Kansas State at Oklahoma

Oregon State at UCLA, Missouri at South Carolina and Miami (FL) at Georgia Tech will also be games to keep an eye on.

UM fan Chuck Todd is NOT hopeful for his 'Canes tomorrow! LOL He said on Morning Joe he could see GT going for 500 yards rushing. He fears that triple-option.

Idaho State at NU on the Big Ten Network at 3:30 Eastern. You guys can call this one the revenue home game. Southern Miss and Arkansas State were better teams going in. Still irked about UCLA. I expected better from a veteran offense and QB. Next week is UW at home! (ABC at night)

They'll be breaking out black helmets and unis. I'm sem-enthused. I'm not crazy about red on black without outlines. You really can't see the characters well.

Correction. The helmets will be red on black. The jerseys will be black on red, the pants will have black stripes on red pants. I wish the pants matched the helmet like it usually does for home games.
