Subject: Remebering the Granville Rail Disaster

Posted by: ElusiveDream
Date: Jan 16 17

This week marks 40 years since one of Australia's worst rail disasters. On the morning of January 17th, 1977, a packed Commuter train travelling from the Blue Mountains to Sydney derailed and slammed into bridge supports as it turned a bend in the track near Granville. Within seconds, hundreds of tons to concrete had crushed two carriages, killing 83 and leaving 200 injured.
