Subject: What Song am I?

Posted by: Mariamir
Date: Nov 29 12

Following the same rules as the other "What ____ am I" threads, the point of this thread is that you ask yes or no questions until someone guesses the correct song. That same person then chooses the next song.

Fire away!

Here's another clue. The woman in the poster was famous for a movie called The Blue Angel and was European, though she made most of her films in Hollywood. Her name is in the song's title. Well, one of her names. Christian name or surname, but not both. Hope this helps.

This was a hard one, I am ashamed! "Marlene on the Wall" by the aforementioned Suzanne Vega?

Welcome back SFJ. Your turn and make it as difficult as possible, to punish me, although in my defence I didn't think it would be that difficult.

Haha, hopefully this won't be too bad.

This song, from an insanely creative artist, is arguably her most well-known song. It was released in 2005 and has appeared in movies, TV shows, and sampled in a hit song by Jason Derulo.

Umm....this calls for another clue. Are the initials of this insanely creative artist I.H.?

They sure are! There are three words in the title.

A confession which you may chastise me severely for SFJ. I did something I have never done before, but only because nobody else seems to be threading here. I had to Google the answer. And I hate myself for it. It's Hide And Seek. I'll do a really easy one for you, so you can have another go. Which song, sung at birthday parties, begins with the words Happy Birthday To...

Clue...Sounds like Yew and U but spelt differently. You only get one chance to answer this incidentally. I hope you're laughing. And sorry I had to look for the answer, I bet I'm in an Imogen Heap of trouble. (insert smiley faces here, ten really grovelly ones)

I thought you said this would be easy... hmm... might have to ask around for some help... I think it has something with St. Patrick's Day, perhaps... nah, how about "Happy Birthday to You?"

You're very funny! Don't feel guilty over using Google, people use it a ton and there are bound to be songs we simply don't know. :)

Next song: it is perhaps best known by the band that did not write it. (That is to say, oldies radio stations never play the version from the man who wrote it) I love that band, named after a certain slow reptile. 4 word title.

Well how about that, you're allowed to Google! Go figure!
Umm...is the song or the band named after the reptile?

The band is named after the reptile. The song in question has 4 words in its title and was written by someone else.

Is it a nice reptile or is it one you'd fly to a different country just to avoid.

It's a nice reptile! I wanted one growing up. I would have named it "Shelly". (no, really!)

Shelly! Classic! It's like that woman who said "Bring me a crocodile handbag and make it snappy!"

At first I thought it might be "Money" by The Flying Lizards but that's 3 words.
Was this song a big hit worldwide? How nice is this reptile? Little nice or colossally huge nice with long scaly things and an attraction to water and people swimming in them?

Okay, reptile with shell equals The Turtles.
Turtles song with 4 words, penned by another, equals It Ain't Me Babe which I think was their first hit but oldies radio stations here never play it, they always play Eleanor and Happy Together which is fine because they're great songs too.

I can't believe I said "Money" has 3 words. I was thinking of the band who sang it, my only excuse is I overslept and went straight to this site while still half asleep. It's a wonder I managed to find the site, let alone type in anything coherent.

That's just more impressive when you think about it then! Congrats, It Ain't Me Babe is indeed the song. Sorry, I always forget that not all radio stations are the same. Your turn!

Hey, you're still on site. Excellent.

I have a lot of older stuff on disc, including 60's compilations and the Turtles version of It Ain't Me Babe is on one of them. And I absolutely love the Dylan original.

Okay, let's see what I can come up with....
Here's one from the 70's. Which song by a Canadian born artist is a dig at an American state and was answered by a band who had a dig at this particular Canadian artist by recording a song about the good things about this American state. Gee, that's very wordy. The latter song is definitely oldies radio fare. Both songs are great.
