If there is a quiz called 'Football Players', it should be about American Football. If there is a quiz about soccer, please call it Soccer Players or Futball Players. This should be done to avoid confusion. Thank you!

One more thing, just to add to the confusion, or maybe take away some of it?

Anton is right -- in the US, unless it's "College Football," and hopefully as an Expert topic it would use the words "US College Football," professional football teams are part of the NFL -- the National Football League, and in an Expert quiz, that should be in the title IF it's a quiz about American Football.

The potentially "more confusing" part is that in the US, we don't call football "gridiron," but I've seen that word used by other countries to name or describe American Football.

It's safer just to stick with American Baseball, where the rules are SO simple! (They're really not, at all, and change depending on the "league.") Or better yet, stick with the NHL and (ice) hockey, unless you're an Avalanche fan and you just got to watch your team lose the first round of Stanley Cup Playoffs in Game 7 to the Minnesota Wild. What a painful series, and... might someone hand me a hanky, please? *cries*

This isn't about moaning, merely confusion.

Football = American Football....Futball = Soccer.

I'm not trying to change the way the world thinks or writes or call a sport by a different name. Just change a little labeling issue here on FT, that's all, seems simple to me.

Thanks!

I think the problem stems from the fact that expert categories are labelled according to the quiz folders they link back to. This is why there is more than one category called 'Harry Potter', or 'Monty Python'. The quiz folders might be from Literature, Entertainment or Movies.

The point being, nobody who pens a quiz on (association) football will call it 'football'/'soccer', just as quizzes on American football won't be titled 'gridiron'.

The best improvement might be to show the folder path that each category comes from, then we know what we're dealing with in each case.

That should read ...'futball'/'soccer'...

I simply love to play Futball Quizzes in the new Duel Game against people from Europe. It's just so nice to know nothing on a subject in their "backyard"!!!

What is your basis for deciding that the word 'Futball' is widely used as a term for (Association) Football?

Hahaha... It's known as football all over the world! It's only (really) our American cousins that call it soccer.

When our friends across the pond start spelling things correctly, then maybe we'll play ball... Sorry, soccer

Futbal (with an accent mark) is Spanish for football. If you watch any matches from Latin countries that's what you'll see it called.

Americans are in the minority using the word soccer. Simply labeling the subcategory American Football might work. Then all we have to do is remember what the rest of world calls football. Or label that subcategory Football (Soccer).

But futball? I doubt that will work.

Math is an anacronism. Futbal is a swearword.
Join the real word football is the game the world plays, maths is the lesson pupls learn at school in the real world.
Get real

In the UK, soccer fans hate their game being called soccer. They call it football, but there are at least seven different types of football. Soccer is really Association football. The type of football being played in the United States is American football. What about Canadian football, Aussie rules football, Gaelic football, Rugby Union and Rugby League? If people just say the word "football" on its own, do they mean all seven of these types of games.
