Fantastic beasts and where to find them. There were a few times I thought I was going to cry, but overall there were more laughs. It was a great movie.

I've just seen "Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool" based on film star Gloria Grahame's last illness. A sad and moving film. It's not due for release in the US until 29 December 2017. It stars Annette Bening, Jamie Bell and Julie Walters.

Added interest for us was that a lot of the film was shot in Liverpool where we'd spent our student years and there was a cinema scene in the film which was filmed at the entrance of the cinema where we were watching the film.
Great independent cinema. We had seniors discount, comfy sofas to sit on (as standard) and free cake and coffee.

I saw the new 'Murder on the Orient Express' recently. It was good, but I still feel like David Suchet should be Poirot.

We just finished watching Baby Driver. Honestly I thought it was just dumb and way too long. If it was an hour or a little over, that probably would have made it better.

On TV I watched a bit of Shrek 2 (just caught the end of it) and Shrek 3. I was impressed by Shrek 3. I didn't expect to be. Sequels aren't often good.

We just got home from seeing "Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle". It was a lot funnier than I thought it would be. I liked it and would see it again on DVD or if it was on T.V.

I've just seen "The Death of Stalin". Underneath the comical elements it's a dark film, but then it was a dark history. The comedy absurdist in nature because there were absurd elements to Stalin's rule and ruling group and because it somehow enables the audience to have a bit of distance from these terrible times while at the same time learning about the sort of things that went on. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the history told completely straight would be unrelievedly bleak and probably put people off seeing it. I think it's a brave attempt at finding a different way of telling the story.

I watched Greatest Showman at the weekend. My partner was prepared to hate it but he liked it in the end and walked out of the cinema singing the main song. It was very uplifting and I enjoyed it.

We saw "Pacific Rim". It was okay. Standard post apocalyptic cut with Neo Genesis Evangelion.

"Arrival" - much more a drama than sci fi

Seeker: I could not agree more. I expected "Arrival" to be way more sci-fi than that.

The last movie I saw was "Happy Death Day" and I liked it!

"Insidious: The Last Key"
I wanted it to be a bit scarier, but hey, it has one of my favorite movie characters of all-time (ELISE!) in it, so it's a winner.

Hadn't heard of Happy Death Day, looks good!

"Dark Skies" - very fun scifi/thriller - reminiscent of Poltergeist and others

"Oldboy" which has been on my 'to watch' list for ages. Subject matter was more disturbing than I expected but it kept me hooked to the end

Ouija & Ouija Origin of Evil - both very enjoyable, especially impressed with the child actors in Origin of Evil

Conjuring 1 & 2 - again impressed with child actors

more to come - catching up on my movie watching
