Subject: Are you afraid of the Dentist?

Posted by: xbunny

I was at my regular check up in the waiting room ,when the woman next to me was very agitated as well another man, when they began to talk about the dentist,it was total horror stories about the treatment, they had a real terrifying fear. With modern dentistry at our finertips, are you still afraid or have you ever been?Apparently one patient can't stand the sounds, the other one detested the smell. Is a bad experience from childhood that lingers on?

Had to have some fillings put in today. I'll be seeing the dentist again next month for more fillings.

Not really, not a huge fan of physical pain (those mouth injections hurt!) but I'm quite brave LOL.

I have always been petrified. Then I got a horrible toothache and found a new dentist, one that has helped me so much. They took away that pain, and I'll always be grateful.
Now they let me listen to my own music, which always helps.
In the end, they're my dentist for life and I've referred 7 people to them, now we all see that dentist!

I have found a possible solution. Some areas can get home visits, private for most but NHS (subsidised) if you have serious problems with dentists. I will put my case and either way a home visit would be worth any money for the lack of stress.

I bit and drew blood on two dentists. They have to now numb both top and bottom jaw or they will get bit. Those gloves that they wear don't taste too good.

After a particularly traumatic root canal treatment when I was around 16, I avoided the dentist for seven years. I was forced to go back after a tooth was infected; at that point my practice had shut down so I joined a new one. Luckily when I was upfront about my anxiety to my new dentist he understood immediately and has done so much to make sure I am calm and feeling okay that I go regularly now.

I still go to a kids dentist. The operations aren't the problem. It's the horribly annoying and stupid Disney movies they play that I hate. Oh, how much I hate those animated movies. 'Let it go' was stuck in my head for days after going to the dentist, and I was ready to explode.

When we were teenagers I had to accompany my sister to each dental visit because she'd be anxious and terrified to the point of vomiting. She practically sat in my lap in the waiting room (she was a year older than me). She had to visit the dentist in her final stage of cancer and it was still awful for her.

I had cracked a molar and was in excruciating pain for a couple of weeks when I found FT which took my mind off it. I found a new dentist at that time, one of the only ones that would take me in in short notice. She was wonderful. In the years since, her daughter joined the practice and is the sole dentist now. I love her even more. I love going to the dentist and completely trust everyone there to take good care of me.
