Posted by: xbunny

Do you like the choice your parents made when they named you?Do you have nick name that annoys you, that stuck with you at school/work..
If you could change your name now, what would you like it to be?

I don't possess either of the names, but I've learned along the way that Mary in English comes from a Hebrew word for 'bitter,' and that Margarita is Spanish for 'daisy.' It's interesting, nae (I don't know how to shorten your user name) that you've come up with different provenances for the same two names....

When I was younger, I would've loved to change my name. Now I've accepted it. The only problem I have is that my first name is used more as a last name and my last name is more of a first name. It's always fun when someone calls your house asking for "Mr. first name". Sorry, wrong number.

4 times as happy!

Thank you, Lochalsh! My username could be "naer" for short, meaning "laughter". I adopted the word from a poem and it means "nest of a laughing bird". It has a nice ring to it. I'm not sure which bird the author had in mind but for me it resembles the lark's song - always so happy as if it was laughing :)

My name wasn't an awfully common one when I was born but now it's so common it's not funny. I'm an aspiring author, so if I ever changed my name, I'd change it to my pen name: Selkie Allegra Neils.

I love my name, but it rhymes with EVERYTHING. Kids used to tease me by calling me names, but after i grew to be a teen, they must've gotten bored. Would i change it? NEVER!! I love my name and its a part of me now. Would you change your arm?

I like my name. My family calls me Tori short for Victoria but in school I was always called Vicki. Well with children you know I had to endure Icky Vicki, Sicky Vicki, Picky Vicki, etc. (My high school Algebra teacher called me Tricky Vicki)

My nickname here is what my Dad always called me. I was the last of seven kids and I guess always the last to come in the room, get in the car, etc. When I would arrive my Dad would say, "And here comes Tori Toos!"

I wouldn't have chosen the name I was given. I would have preferred to be called something not so common.

No! I hate my name! That's why I go by my initials. Why anyone would name a baby girl "Cynthia Charlene" is beyond me! If either of these otherwise lovely names happen to be yours, no offense. It's just not ME!

Cynthia seems o.k. You can always shorten it to the interesting sounding Cyn.

I like my name, but someone with the same name started working at the same place a couple of months after I started. She spells her name differently, but because she's more senior, everyone has started spelling my name wrong in emails and paperwork. And occasionally they send me emails that should go to her.

It's never happened to me before, but I didn't think it would irritate me as much as it does.

What amazes me is the number of work colleagues I have had over the years who have seen my name written down in work emails (and other documents) and who persistently spell my name incorrectly when they send me an email in reply. In my opinion, it is very unobservant and careless, not to mention unprofessional, not to check the spelling of the person to whom you are sending work-related correspondence.

The worst offender was a supervisor named Dianne who went ballistic if anyone spelled her name Diane but who addressed me in emails as Carol (instead of Carole) for years. I never bothered to correct her.

Since then, at work, I've always been careful to check official documents to make sure my name is right. Even one letter in the wrong place can cause all kinds of problems.

No way, no how. It's Gaelic Irish and nobody can pronounce it.

I didn't used to like my middle name but I do now and I've always been happy with my other two names

I have a hard time saying my own name - first middle and last all together - three times fast with out tripping up unless I really concentrate. My first and last names begin with K and my middle name begins with C. The result is quite a tongue twister when attempting to say all of them three times fast. That has never been an issue with me at all, but what is rather annoying is when people get my first and last names reversed. Granted, my last name is a somewhat common first name, but my first name being someone's last name is something I have never once heard of in my entire life.

Just Googled how many people in the world have my first name as their last name and it's like I might as well have been speaking Chinese! :-p I guess that must mean zero.

I am British, but my father wanted me to have an unusual first name- Monique and my mother (who is German) gave me Ute as a middle name. The problem is everyone remembers you!

My last name is anglicised version of what was originally French name.....in Southern UK it is reasonably common..........not so up North where I have lived for 25 years. I am happy enough with my name, but I wish people up here would spell it correctly (which they seldom do), and pronounce it correctly (which they even more seldom do).
