I watched a short TV series called "The House". It traced the occupants of a Victorian or maybe pre-Victorian house in Liverpool from the time it was built until the present day, following the lives of its occupants and the ups and downs of the house itself. It went from being built to house a successful merchant class, all the way down the social scale so that in the 70s it was being sold for a few hundred pounds and was generally used as lodging rooms. Things have now turned full circle and it and its neighbour houses in Falkner Street in the centre of Liverpool are once again sought after by wealthy people.
The lives of the occupants were fascinating in themselves and covered a wide sweep of social history and events. It was also interesting for us because we once lived in Liverpool and had friends who lived in a flat in that street.

At the moment a UK Channel 4 programme called "The £1 Houses" set in Liverpool. It follows the council's attempt to revitalise an area which the council once cleared for demolition but did not go ahead as a government grant was pulled. They were solid houses but compulsorily purchased by the council and cleared of occupants then left empty to decay for years (at least 5 years it seems). All the risk is with the buyers. They must do up their houses to the satisfaction of the council within a year or lose them. It's just down the road from where I lived as a student. The problem is that for complicated or unexplained reasons, not enough buyers are moving into the houses quickly enough and the area is one of high crime, making the first occupants vulnerable (mostly to theft) and having second thoughts about what a bargain they have. I must say the area seemed a lot safer when I was there but that was over 40 years ago.

I should clarify that it's a short series. (You can't claim addiction to a one off show).

Loved Sharpe. Very good mini series.

Fascinating list of actors that went on to do things that they were more famous for. Liz Hurley, Pete Postlethwaite, Paul Bettany are just a few off the top of my head. Of course Sean Bean very much the star.

“Chosen men, to me!”

I've watched Season 1 of Yellowstone. I'm glad to hear there is a Season 2...and according to another thread, it's been renewed for a third season. So I've a bit of catching up to do!
