O.K I'll knock it off after this comment. I'm going to a concert on Saturday so I thought I'd check how things stand. There are 136 cases in London. My borough has 3 cases and the borough I need to travel to has 1 case so I think I'll risk it. I checked all London Boroughs and the ones with the most cases are wealthy boroughs in central London. One of the poorest boroughs has no cases. I wonder if that's because the wealthy take more holidays abroad, travel about more and meet more people outside of the immediate family. I don't know. I'm guessing now so I'll be quiet. Reply #2241. Mar 12 20, 2:04 PM |

Sorry to hear someone whose work you value has gone. I am inclined to take the Occam's razor approach to the authorship question, but I respect the sincerity of authorship questioners, particularly when they have taken the trouble to try and back it up with research. I feel sorry for those involved in 'The Upstart Crow'. The theatres have closed down now. It was due to run up towards the end of April. I am glad I got to see it before it closed. Closing the theatres because of the spread of an infectious disease. How very like Shakespearean times!. Reply #2245. Mar 20 20, 10:57 AM |

Here's a live update site. Over 6,000 deaths in Italy so far. Other European countries are said to be behind Italy. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ Reply #2247. Mar 23 20, 12:09 PM |

Sorry, 50+ is the national figure not the London figure, but London is one of the hotspots. Reply #2249. Mar 23 20, 3:11 PM |

Yes but they wouldn't have died of their underlying health problems at this time if they hadn't got the virus. One characteristic of the virus that makes it so dangerous is how often it results in pneumonia. I trust the Italian figures. Italian doctors have no reason to lie. They are professionals. They know what it killing people when they are treating them and trying to save them. Armchair theorists are less knowledgeable and often believe what they want to or don't believe what they want to, depending on how it fits their armchair theories. Reply #2251. Mar 23 20, 4:34 PM |

You can't compare Covid 19 deaths to ordinary flu deaths. There was never such a concerted effort to prevent ordinary flu from spreading. Covid 19 deaths would be much higher but for theses measures. There is a vaccine for ordinary flu though it's not always 100% effective, as it is based on the previous year's form of the virus. However it's thought to mitigate symptoms even where it's not an effective preventative. There is no vaccination for Covid 19. Reply #2253. Mar 24 20, 1:42 AM |

We've lost a team member to Covid 19, and a relative of another team member. They were elderly and so perhaps people might say it's only to be expected, but I can't wait for this awful time to pass. I got a letter from my GP today saying I'm classified as vulnerable and giving me guidance, which involves me having to keep a distance from my own family in the same house. It's going to be tough doing that. Reply #2256. Mar 31 20, 1:18 PM |

Well daver, you remember the motto: "Never let a crisis go to waste". Fear is a necessary prerequisite to authoritarianism. So as much fear as possible must be disseminated. The window of opportunity here is short for those who would capitalize on it. But daver, seeing as you are among the few people who are taking the long view of this, you might appreciate George Carlin's take on germs. Just go to YouTube and type in George Carlin germs immune system in the search box and look for the first clip that comes up (6:27 in length). I would post it here, but you know Carlin and his words you can't say on TV. He uses a lot of them in the clip. Anyway, I enjoyed his take on his swimming in the Hudson River as a kid. Reply #2259.
