Palaeontologists have finally announced that a dinosaur discovered in outback Queensland, Australia, in 2005, is a new species. It's a 105-million-year-old Sauropod (long-necked herbivore) and has been named Savannasaurus. Reply #4. Oct 21 16, 4:32 PM |

Here's an interesting question: How would palaeontologists know if a dinosaur was pregnant? Reply #7. Oct 21 16, 11:14 PM |

True. You look for medullary bone in the fossils. Only females would have had this type of bone and it would only have been present during the production of eggs. This is how dinosaurs and their closest-living relatives, the birds, create shells for their eggs. So, if a dinosaur fossil is found with medullary bone in it, palaeontologists can say for certain that the dinosaur was female. Reply #9. Oct 22 16, 4:35 PM |

Elusive Dream. Do you know how many dinosaurs have been discovered to date? When I was a child I used to think there were only a few types but there seems to be a lot. Reply #10. Jun 19 18, 6:39 AM |

Around 700 species have been named, however, only half of them are based on fairly complete fossils that can be shown to be a separate species. There are 300 valid dinosaur genera. Some genera contain only one species while others have many. Reply #11. Aug 09 18, 7:13 AM |

Thank you. Plenty of material for quizzes then. I'm sure I only score in dinosaur quizzes because I did some Latin at school and the names of dinosaurs often include Latin and sometimes Greek descriptions of their characteristics which match up with the questions. Reply #12. Aug 12 18, 3:39 PM |
