I've got a question about soccer which is too complex to put on the funtrivia question section. My question is based on a question from a funtrivia quiz.

The questioner asked:
"Which was the first team to beat England in the FIFA World Cup competition after 1966?". The answer given was "Scotland". I can't remember which quiz this question was in.

I can't find any information about Scotland beating England after 1966. England were the winners in 1966, so they automatically qualified in 1970, but they lost to West Germany in the Quarter-finals and so they were knocked out. In 1974, England didn't qualify. They were in the same group as Poland who did qualify.

The question is worded incorrectly.

Scotland were the first team to beat England in any match after they were crowned World champions, not a match in the World Cup.

Scotland beat England at Wembley in April 1967 3-2. It was a European Championships qualifying match. This was Englands first defeat as World champions.

Scotland beat England at Wembley in 1967, but it wasn't a World Cup match. It was a European Championship qualifier.

Congratulations to Wales in the European Championships 2016. Commiserations to Northern Ireland. Both are making history and Wales are now through to the quarter finals.
England and Republic of Ireland are still to play their games in the last 16.

P.S England will be playing Iceland - the smallest nation in the competition with only 329k population.

Can't help but root for Iceland--actrue Cinderella team. Just watching the end of the Croatia-Portugal match. I'm sorry Crotia didn't win.

jabb5076. You love to support the underdog I see. It is good to see small countries do well against large ones. Wales (population 3 million) beat Russia (population 143 million) 3-0, quite amazing!

Community Shield on TV at the moment. I think that used to be called The Charity Shield at one time. The winners of the Premier League (Leicester City) play the winners of the F.A. Cup (Manchester United).

The F.A. Cup is such an amazing competition, rather like the Knockout game in fun trivia. It's so unpredictable. Non-league side Lincoln have knocked out Premier League side Burnley today and last year's Premier League Champions Leicester City have been knocked out by League 1 side Millwall. Who will be the final winners? Chelsea and Manchester City are still in the competition and the odds must favour them, but you can't always count on the odds in the F.A Cup.

Thus proving that "The magic of the FA Cup" is alive and well.

First non-league team to reach quarter-finals since 1914, and SUTTON yet to play so we could have TWO. Has there ever been TWO before I wonder?

I still recall the day I stood with my father, as we saw our 4th Division Team knock the 1st Division (what the Premier League used to be called) Champions out of the Cup in the 5th Round. This is the stuff all fans remember........:)

Yes it provides, magic, hope and glamour as well as a bit of dosh for all those smaller clubs whose loyal fans stand there in the rain week in week out without all the publicity and hoo ha that goes with Premier League Clubs. What a great reward for the fans' loyalty to get this far in the F.A. Cup.

Leicester: if they go on and win the champions league, but as champions of the top flight are relegated, is this a first?

Tottenham Hotspur is now through to the quarter finals. That makes 3 Premier League Teams through with Arsenal another possibility. If Arsenal don't get through against non-league Sutton, which is unlikely, then the 2 non-league teams Sutton and Lincoln will play each other in the quarter finals and one must then get through to the semi-finals. Most likely is that both non-league sides will get knocked out in their next matches but I really hope one sneaks through.

Arsenal are beating Sutton with 30 mins to go. Looks like Sutton will be out of the F.A. Cup

Yep. Sutton lost, but holding Arsenal to 2-0 is no disgrace for the non-league team. They almost scored when Deacon hit the bar.

Poor old Claudio Ranieri has been sacked. After leading Leicester City to the top of the Premier League last season they are now near to relegation.
