R.I.P Gordie Howe. Remember you well from when I lived in Canada. Reply #1. Jun 12 16, 1:06 PM |

I met Gordie Howe at a fundraiser softball game once about 28 years ago, and he was just the nicest man. He was playing on a team of retired pro athletes against a team of local celebrities. The funds raised went to a variety of children's programs, and I worked for one of these agencies. We employees were required to help out at the game, and my job was to hostess a meet/greet table where fans could meet the athletes, get autographs, make donations, etc. At my table I had Gordie Howe, Lou Piniella and John Havlicek. Piniella was an arse, and Havlicek was quiet. But Gordie Howe signed every autograph, took every photo, and chatted with every fan. He found out that I was newly married and congratulated me, asking all about the wedding, our families, and future plans. He went out of his way to be pleasant and friendly to everyone. I know he was a hockey legend, but I will always remember him as kind person and will respect him for that just as much. Reply #2. Jun 12 16, 2:08 PM |

Could take care of himself on the ice. One of the best. Great that he scored a goal with one of his sons. Reply #3. Jun 16 16, 11:51 AM |
