I watched Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid about 6 times when it came out. The story and characters were interesting, the script was good and witty, the music was good, the photography was excellent, (it was beautiful to look at) and I loved watching the actors, Paul Newman and Robert Redford and the way their characters sparked off each other. Also, 'The Third Man' - a great thriller, very atmospheric, brilliant script, characters and acting - a gripping story but also moving and meaningful. Interesting music, excellent photography and one of my favourite writers, Graham Greene, wrote the script. Orson Welles is also in it and also Joseph Cotton who was later blacklisted in the McCarthy era. Also it had British actor Trevor Howard who is always a woth a watch. Reply #4. Nov 20 18, 6:54 AM |

I like watching Dickens and Jane Austen movies over and over, given the chance, as they are great writers and really knew how to tell gripping stories and write interesting characters and plots. Two of my favourites are 'Pride and Prejudice' with Greer Garson and Lawrence Olivier and 'Great Expectations with' John Mills. and Jean Simmons. Also 'Spartacus' with Kirk Douglas, a great story well told with some excellent actors, Lawrence Olivier, Tony Curtis, Jean Simmons, Peter Ustinov. And 'The Vikings' with Tony Curtis, Kirk Douglas, and Janet Leigh. Another great story well told. Also 'Some Like it Hot' with Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. I didn't really think I watched any movies over and over but this thread has now sparked some memories. I do like watching some Alfred Hitchcock films over especially 'Vertigo', 'Rear Window', 'North by Northwest' and 'Notorious' and I would watch Bond films over if they were ones where Sean Connery played the lead. I enjoy John Wayne and Alfred Hitchcock marathons. I watch "A Few Good Men" and "Shawshank Redemption" every time that they are on, and that's often. Both very good movies, in my opinion. Reply #8. Nov 20 18, 9:31 PM |

Jaws, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, The Green Mile, and Stand By Me are all films that I have to watch if they're on TV, and will watch on DVD, too. I've watched the Harry Potter series lots of times, and as a teen in the eighties, I watched lots of films until I knew almost every line. The Lost Boys, Top Gun, Pretty In Pink, The Breakfast Club, Young Guns, all those. I had a best friend who I used to walk to school with, and every morning when I arrived at her house, she'd be watching Grease on VHS. I kid you not. Every. Single. Morning. Reply #9. Apparently Germans, at Xmas, have traditionally watched a British comedy sketch called 'Dinner for One'. It's been shown on their TV every Xmas since 1972. 'Dinner for One' is broadcast annually on New Year's Eve, not Christmas. It has also been aired here in Australia since 1989. The play tickles my funny bone. Wikipedia has more at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinner_for_One 'Rashomon' and 'Yojimbo' are regular favourites of mine for their interesting and, in the latter case, witty plots. Yoji Yamada's 'Twilight Samurai' with it's self-deprecating protagonist appeals to my romantic side. 'North by Northwest', 'Once Upon a Time in the West' and 'The Big Sleep' get regular viewings. "Casablanca" and "The Godfather" (I and II) IMO the three best films of all time. In another vein (no pun intended)" Dracula" Bela Lugosi is one of my all time favorite actors.
