A bit over done in my opinion, but I've been hand washing anyway. Can't see why people buy up all the soap, they are bound to get infected from those who find there is no soap to buy. Number of deaths from Coronavirus so far - 3805 Average number of deaths per day from TB in 2018 - 4084 Reply #1. Mar 08 20, 4:55 PM |

Not at all. The regular flu kills a lot more people. Just more fake news and unwarranted hype. It has, however, reaffirmed my belief in the incredible stupidity of the vast majority of my fellow human beings. You want to see a real pandemic? Read about the Spanish Flu in 1918-19. In some places, people were dying faster than they could be buried. Reply #2. Mar 11 20, 4:14 PM |

Reply #2 is an example of what happens when horse blinder ideology interferes with truth that surrounds. It's "alternative facts" not fake news. Reply #3. Mar 11 20, 4:41 PM |

Spanish flu had a similar mortality rate to coronavirus (2-3%). Luckily we don't have a world war mobilizing its spread. Reply #4. Mar 11 20, 8:38 PM |

The NBA has suspended the season after Rudy Gobert tested positive. Tom Hanks tested positive too. But don't worry America, it's all fake news! Reply #5. Mar 11 20, 10:18 PM |

It's interesting that the entire situation looks more and more every day like a Hollywood movie script. The common flu does kill a lot more people, but has mortality rate of only 0.1%. If Covid-19 became as widespread, there'd be tens of millions of deaths. That is the real fear here. As for the Spanish flu, that was 100 years ago. They didn't even have penicillin yet. Compared to today's means, they might as well have been cavemen. Reply #6. Mar 12 20, 4:36 AM |

Antibiotics are no use for viruses only for bacterial infections. It's the pneumonia that comes with Covid 19 that kills people especially older or vulnerable people with underlying health conditions. Medics don't 'overhype' medical risks, and medics are not spreading 'fake news'. There's no need to panic. Just listen to the recommended advice from medics for staying safe and taking precautions. If not enough testing is being done, that's when the virus can spread without people knowing the extent of the spread. Reply #8. Mar 13 20, 12:24 PM |

I read today that in the UK they are not testing people in their homes when they report symptoms but only when they turn up to hospital, so I guess the infection figures could be very understated. Reply #16. Mar 13 20, 6:14 PM |

Same in the states, Mix. Apparently a massive amount of test kits were sent to California with missing items. Around here the doctors are urging anyone with symptoms who's under 50 to self quarantine. They don't want an influx they can't handle when it really gets serious. A few people from my office stayed home with symptoms today. I'll be ok if I get it, I'm 35. It's the people around me I'm more concerned about. And everyone here I've met who are in that demographic. I'm sure many of you are worried. My thoughts are with you Reply #17. Mar 13 20, 7:00 PM |

I hope everyone stays safe, healthy, and if in an infected area, at home playing lots of Funtrivia. Flatten the curve everyone! https://www.flattenthecurve.com/ Reply #18. Mar 13 20, 8:23 PM |

Thanks for the well wishes, Postcards, Mix, Albert...........guess all us more vulnerable can do is hope for the best........shrugs! One thing is sure, each and everyone of us will die, and the older one gets, the more one is aware of this. That is not morbidness, or pessimism , it's realism. Only questions are "where", "when" and "of what". Reply #19. Mar 14 20, 3:14 AM |
