I must prefer seeing plays and musicals live on stage. There's nothing like being in the room during a live performance. Reply #1. Oct 23 23, 8:14 PM |

I like them both. There is such an intimacy between the audience and performers during a live performance. It's actually even better when there are little flubs during a play's presentation. I was watching a Neil Simon comedy on Broadway when the lead actress got the giggles. It was only her and the lead actor on stage at the time. He tried not to laugh too. When it became obvious she wasn't going to recover from this laughing fit, he took over acting both parts. The scene was them having their 1st lover's quarrel. He didn't have her lines memorized so he started ad libbing her part, then his part. Soon their "mothers" joined in on the argument so he was ad libbing 4 parts. The actress meanwhile was literally on the floor, with tears streaming down her face, holding her ribs from laughing so hard. The audience loved the improv proformance we got. When the curtain came down on an extra intermission, the backstage crew started applauding before the curtain dropped. The stage manager started yelling at time. He could be heard yelling after the curtain dropped. I had great seats, 4th row orchestra. However, for the ballet, I prefer perfection. I've seen operas where parts of the decor fell and the singer's simply kicked it out of the way. My brother in law sang opera and sung minor parts across the world. When he & my sister moved back to NYC, I spent more time at the Met watching opera. But ..... I can also totally lose myself while watching a well made movie. I can forget surroundings, the sticky floor, the chattered, how cold theater's always are. The key is it being a *well made* made movie. Reply #2. Nov 05 23, 2:48 PM |

MiraJane, what are "the chattered"? I'm not sure. I think I meant the chatterers, meaning people who all that money for movie tickets & overpriced snacks and then talk through the whole movie. Reply #3. Nov 05 23, 3:01 PM |
