In most areas (e.g., spelling and punctuation), we try to accept all usages that are acceptable somewhere across the globe. So although I use Roman numerals, as an editor I would not worry about seeing World War 2. The History category may be more interested in uniformity because of the large number of quizzes there for which it would be relevant, so with any luck one of the editors in that category will see your question and respond! Not a History editor, but a history buff, and the only one that makes me cringe is WW11 instead of either WWII or WW2. Reply #2. Nov 17 23, 3:00 PM |

As a History editor, Arabic or Roman numerals are both acceptable. I highly prefer Roman numerals for some reason, but I wouldn't change the other version. Like was previously said, just keep it consistent throughout the quiz. Reply #3. Nov 17 23, 3:36 PM |

Thank you, everyone. Actually, the quiz in question is in the Historical Fiction subcat of Literature. Reply #4. Nov 17 23, 5:48 PM |

This is a quixotic article which touches (briefly) on this subject. https://tinyurl.com/48mkkuhz Reply #5. Nov 18 23, 1:17 AM |

I prefer World War I or World War II - Roman numeral style. It's more academic in style. Easily understood on old monuments etc as well, going back over 2,000 years or so. (That sounds snobbish - it isn't meant to be) Reply #6. Nov 24 23, 9:44 PM |
