It's only 12:30 p.m. on the east coast of the U.S. I have several hours left in 2023, but 2024 is in my sights. Happy New Year to all :-) Reply #2. Dec 31 23, 11:33 AM |

snhha... I'm in New York City. Yes, people usually call me postie... sounds nicer than postcards (which I used to sell and trade on line, but haven't in over a decade). Reply #5. Dec 31 23, 12:29 PM |

postie, hi, nice to meet you. I was watching a Xmas movie about this New York city girl who went to Maine to buy an inn and someone asked her "Can you see stars in New York City?" I did not see any star either when I was living in Tokyo, Japan. What I noticed though, they went to sleep at 10 pm. Reply #7. Dec 31 23, 1:36 PM |

This was not a good start, 2024, you can do better. My computer died shortly after Big Ben Bonged. One way of getting me to practice with this Chromebook thingy I suppose. Reply #10. Dec 31 23, 9:28 PM |

Flopsy, my sympathies. I'm not fond of Chromebook. It severely limits customization, and everything needs to be stored in the 'cloud', because there is no space on the device. Still, it's better than using a phone, until you can get back to using a 'real' computer. Reply #11. Dec 31 23, 9:41 PM |

I think it's fixed. I think therefore it is. Otherwise known as blind ignorance. Just as well it fixed itself, I was about to fetch a hammer. Reply #14. Jan 01 24, 10:00 AM |

Flopsy, we have a long-standing friend whose solution to any problem over the last forty odd years we've known him is to fetch a hammer. It's quite surprising how many times it's worked. Reply #15. Jan 01 24, 10:20 AM |

I used to be a computer professional (of some sort) so my friends often asked me what they should do when this or that happened. First response was "log off, log back on" ... if that didn't work, the next answer was "switch the machine off, go make a hot drink, switch it back on"... and "if that doesn't work, kick the darn thing". My problem last night was that none of the keys worked so I couldn't log off or even switch off, the whole thing was frozen - lights on, no one home. So I threatened it with violence and unplugged everything to let the battery drain. Very similar to a hammer in laptop terms but without having to search the garage. :) Reply #16.
