Are we allowed to use an abbreviation using initials in a quiz if we state at the beginning what it means?

I'm talking about a photo-match quiz here which cant be used outside of the quiz that it is in as a standalone question and only in the II not the questions themselves.

The rule of thumb is to use the full word/phrase/name the first time it appears in a question, so that those who are not familiar with the shortened form will know what you are talking about. This does not apply for those that are so well known any trivia player could be expected to know them - USA, UK, for example. I recently handled a correction note (as an editor) from a player who was not familiar with the use of DCI to denote the UK police rank of Detective Chief inspector, something I am so familiar with from watching UK shows that I didn't even think twice about it, so the line between what needs to be fully explained and what is general knowledge can be a bit blurry.

Since you say you are only using it in the information, there will be no problem that I can foresee. If your editor sees one, they will let you know.

Ha! For me, after reading far too many Tom Clancy novels, DCI would be Director of Central Intelligence!
I suggest, as previously mentioned, the practice of having the long form initially with the abbreviation in brackets, and then the abbreviated form subsequently.
