Subject: Redirects from Main Links

A couple of months ago I started to get redirected to what I would call sponsors (not having a better moniker).

They usually want to sell something, and change what happens to you so that you may have to OK something, OR Cancel it.

It is never all of my daily favorites, but is quite annoying as it picks and choses different things on different days. Affected are The Monster Quiz, and the "top" five of the Hourly quizzes.
Anyone know if I am a victim of the Internet, of is this something initiated for monetary reasons???

It is quite annoying.

Thank you for all you do here!

Hmm. We do have advertising on the site for regular members and a few months ago changed agencies - the new agency was at first rather aggressive with the ads they used but that's often the case while they try to find what suits the client's needs best. I think that has calmed down a bit now and Terry is no doubt keeping an eye on the situation.

Having said that, the new advertising should not have involved automatic redirects (which are different from clickthrus). That sounds more like malware to me so I would suggest that you run an anti-malware program on your PC to see if that finds anything. Antivirus software doesn't always pick up malware but there is a specialist anti-malware program which has a free checking/removal tool so you could try that - I'll send you the link privately so I don't break my own chatboard rules. ;)

I think I know which one she's going to recommend; I tried it a few years ago at her suggestion and even the free version works very well.
