7. Jerry Orbach, Leigh Taylor-Young, Jo Van Fleet, and Robert De Niro starred in this funny 1971 movie, directed by James Goldstone. What is the name of this movie?
From Quiz Movies of Robert De Niro
Answer:
The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight
The role played by Jerry Orbach was based on the life of Joey Gallo, a New York City gangster who was shot to death in a restaurant in 1972. The role of Mario Tarantino was originally accepted by Al Pacino, who, after being offered the role of Michael Corleone in "The Godfather", pulled out and it was then offered to Robert De Niro. Mario was illegally in the US and to make money he pretended to be a priest and talked members of the Mafia into donating to a non-existent charity.
A bit of irony: In "The Godfather, Part II," De Niro landed the part of the young Vito Corleone, Michael's father. He and Pacino virtually co-starred in the sequel.
