George Harrison Trivia Questions

1. On what album was "My Sweet Lord" (1970) released?

From Quiz
My Sweet Lord

Answer: All Things Must Pass

"All Things Must Pass" (1970) was released by George Harrison just a few months after the Beatles broke up. He was, in fact, the first member of the Beatles to release a solo album. It was, however, more than just a solo album; it was a triple album, with most of its works (23 tracks altogether) coming from songs that George had originally written for the Beatles. He was a very prolific songwriter, but so were John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Albums released by the Beatles typically only had one or two songs that George had written. Hit singles on the triple album included "My Sweet Lord" and "What Is Life". Before his death, the album was reissued in honor of the 30th anniversary of its release. The Recording Industry Association of America certified it six times platinum in 2001.

2. This song was released on George's first solo album, "All Things Must Pass". "In the fog and in the rain Through the pleasures and the pain On the step outside you stand With your flowers in your hand."

From Quiz George Harrison's Lesser Known Songs

Answer: Apple Scruffs

This is a song that he dedicated to the fans who stood day after day outside EMI Studios hoping for autographs and such. (They came up with this name themselves, by the way.) One of the nicest verses in the song is: "While the years they come and go Now, your love must surely show me That beyond all time and space We're together face to face, my Apple Scruffs Apple Scruffs, Apple Scruffs How I love you, how I love you." George really did appreciate his fans.

7. To which Renaissance artist does George Harrison refer in the first verse of "P2 Vatican Blues (Last Saturday Night)?"

From Quiz George Harrison's "Brainwashed" Album

Answer: Michelangelo Buonarotti

"Gazed at the ceiling from below, a splendid Michelangelo," he sings, referring to the painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. Listen for this: at 1:33, when George begins the line "I wish somebody would tell me," the "I" sounds just like a guitar string is being picked. I think he finally turned into his guitar. Also, for those who are wondering, when he sings ýthree Hail Marys," he is not trying to make it sound like "Murray." George's voice may have sounded different throughout the album because of his throat cancer.

From Quiz My Sweet Lord

Answer: Uncredited

Alan White who played with "Yes", once claimed that he had been one of the drummers on the song, and there has also been talk that Peter Frampton may have added acoustic guitar after the initial session. Some sources claim that John Lennon played rhythm guitar. None of those claims have ever been substantiated. It is very easy to hear the influences of Indian music on the song, including a zither, and George, who played slide-guitar, used it to simulate other traditional Indian string instruments. The person who played the zither, however, was left uncredited.

From Quiz George Harrison's Lesser Known Songs

Answer: Cheer Down

George later released "The Dark Horse Years 1976-1992", which is a set of eight remastered CDs and a DVD with the interview with George that I've mentioned throughout this quiz, six videos, film excerpts from the "Live In Japan" concert, and a few scenes from the Madonna/Sean Penn movie "Shanghai Surprise". The CDs included are: "33 & 1/3", "George Harrison", "Cloud 9", "Gone Troppo", "Somewhere In England" and the entire "Live In Japan" concert. The videos included are: "This Song", "Crackerbox Palace", two different versions of "Got My Mind Set On You" (the library one is better, in my opinion; and, no, it's not George who does the back flip from the chair and the disco dance, but many people think it's him, which George thought was really hilarious! "I don't dance," he said in the interview. "I'm amazed at how many people think it's me!" Look closely-the man is younger, heavier and has longer, darker and more curly hair than George), "When We Was Fab", and my personal favorite, "This Is Love." A must have for the truly devoted George Harrison fan! (Watch the "Live in Japan" concert excerpt when the band is doing the song "Taxman". A blonde back-up singer sticks her tongue out at the camera! Really childish!)
