Naboo was a fertile and lush planet close to the Outer Rim where the movie "The Phantom Menace" starts. It is the home of Padmé Amidala, originally the elected Queen of Naboo and later the senator for the planet at the Galactic Senate. However, it is also the home of the Gungans, amphibious humanoids that lived in cities under the water of the planet, away from humans. When Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn lands on the planet with his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, they inadvertently rescue a Gungan that is caught in the fighting. That Gungan, Jar Jar Binks, owes the two a life debt and accompanies them on their journeys.

The Battle of Coruscant was the largest and boldest offensive that the Confederacy of Independent Systems had ever launched against the Galactic Republic. It ended in failure, and the Confederacy fell soon afterwards.

After Obi-Wan left to deactivate the tractor beam, Luke learned that Princess Leia had been captured and was scheduled to be executed. He then enlisted the help of Han and Chewie to stage a rescue. The trio made their way to the detention block and quickly took control of it. Luke found and freed the princess, but didn't have any escape plan, which resulted in the cell-block shootout, before the group bailed into the garbage chute. They were almost crushed by the masher, but R2-D2 was able to shut it down just in time. The gang then made their way through the Death Star back to the Falcon, where they were eventually able to leave, but only with the sacrifice of Obi-Wan Kenobi at the hands of Darth Vader. Once clear of the Death Star, Han and Luke still had to fend off four pursuing TIE Fighters. However, it had been Vader's plan for the Falcon to escape with a tracking beacon that would lead the Imperials straight to the hidden Rebel Base on Yavin IV.

Hoth, the icy world seen in "The Empire Strikes Back", was where the Rebel Alliance had built Echo Base. The Imperials sent out probe droids to a variety of locations, including Hoth, and it found the Rebel shield generator before Han Solo and Chewbacca managed to destroy it. They Imperials sent the fleet to Hoth, but had to use a ground invasion due to the shield. The battle consisted of Rebel Soldiers holding off advancing AT-AT walkers (Blizzard Force), while attempting the evacuate Echo Base. They used an ion cannon to disable the orbiting Star Destroyers so the unarmed transports could slip by. The AT-AT walkers were too heavily armored to destroy with sheer lasers, so Rogue Squadron, who were flying Snowspeeders, used tow cables to tie up the legs of the walkers, rendering them useless. Colonel Veers, in the lead AT-AT, managed to make his way to the shield generator and destroyed it. With that, Imperial forces started landing en masse and took Echo Base, though most key figures in the Rebel Alliance had managed to escape (such as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia).

Although Christophsis is in the Outer Rim, the Confederacy overruns the planet. The Republic is forced to commit forces to liberate the planet. Those forces are at risk of being cut off. The Hutts control much of the Outer Rim and have threatened to restrict travel through their space lanes. Anakin and Obi-Wan are the Jedi in charge of the liberation and the they think they have control of this world, but the droid retreat is a ruse. General Whorm Loathsom leads a fresh attack that is protected by a force field, effectively eliminating the firepower of the Republic army's artillery guns. The battle is won when Obi-Wan delays Loathsom's final attack, giving Anakin and Ahsoka Tano enough time to destroy the shield generator. This allows the fleet to land gunships carrying Master Yoda and reinforcements.
