From Quiz: Second Form at Malory Towers
Answer: Wonderful
Or, as Zerelda pronounces it, 'wunnerful'. She describes everything as 'wunnerful', from English accents to Darrell's dad and, like many American characters in Enid Blyton books, thinks England is a quaint little country. The Rivers agree to pick her up on the way to school as her grandma and Darrell's grandma are friends. Darrell is surprised to discover that Zerelda is only fifteen, as she wears make-up and looks much older. Darrell takes an immediate dislike to her, not helped by Zerelda falling asleep in the car when Darrell tries to tell her about Malory Towers. Alicia and the other girls (besides Gwendoline) mock Zerelda's habit of calling everything 'wunnerful'.

From Quiz: Malory Towers: Book One
Answer: Mazeley Manor
Maureen talks incessantly about her old school, much to the annoyance of Darrell and friends, as new girls are supposed to be quiet. Alicia can't resist being sarcastic and mentioning how girls at Mazeley Manor failed their exams, but her sarcasm goes over Maureen's head. Mam'zelle Dupont mistakenly calls it 'Measly Manor', much to the delight of the girls, who use the nickname every time Maureen mentions Mazeley Manor. Unlike Malory Towers, it was a poor school with little to no discipline; Maureen has wonky teeth because she refused to wear a wire while at Mazeley Manor, and realises that if she had been at Malory Towers, Matron would have insisted on her wearing it.

From Quiz: "Last Term at Malory Towers" (Enid Blyton)
Answer: Darrell
Darrell Rivers is the heroine of the series. The books begin with her arrival at the school as a shy first former and follow her through the years until the sixth form where she is a mature and dignified head girl.
Darrell is a good all rounder - she works hard and excels at both academics and sports and is a friendly girl who gets on with most students. She is head girl of the fourth form and the author of the pantomime in the fifth.
Her temper first shows itself in the first book where she slaps Gwendoline in the pool and shakes Sally at half term, she has a tussle with Ellen over test papers in the second form and a confrontation with young June in fourth form which temporarily loses her her position of head girl.
She does, however, have the ability to recognise this fault within herself and always apologises after she has had time to calm down and tries hard to learn to control herself which makes her a true Blyton heroine.
At the end of the series she is all set to go off to St Andrews College in Scotland with Sally, Alicia and Betty and has high hopes of becoming a writer.

The teachers laugh at her pranks in private, but dislike the way she talks to other girls. Miss Grayling believes that while other girls might admire or envy Alicia, they won't want to be real friends with her.

Zerelda dislikes her because of her size and because she cannot understand the mentality of girls who love sports and take very little interest in their appearances. Darrell, meanwhile, cannot understand why Zerelda spends so much time on her hair and make-up and has so little interest in ordinary schoolgirl activities.
