From Quiz Bob Dylan Lyrics, Part Two

7. "I've heard new born babies wailin', Like a mornin' dove..."

15. In 1966, Bob Dylan released what song with the following lyrics? "Nobody has to guess That Baby can't be blessed Till she sees finally that she's like all the rest With her fog, her amphetamine and her pearls."

From Quiz Dylan 1966 Lyrics

Answer: Just Like a Woman

Dylan wrote this ballad on Thanksgiving Day 1965 while on tour in Kansas City. One interpretation is that it was inspired by Edie Sedgwick, a pin-up girl who appears in sleeve photos of "Blonde On Blonde". Others allege it was inspired by his relationship with fellow folk singer Joan Baez.

16. What fast-paced song by Bob Dylan contains the following lyrics? "They must bust in early May Orders from the D.A."

From Quiz Dylan 1965 Lyrics

Answer: Subterranean Homesick Blues

"Subterranean Homesick Blues" became Dylan's first Top 40 Billboard Hot 100, reaching number 39. It went to Number ten in the United Kingdom. The song is probably remembered by most for the promotional video, which featured him in an alley, holding large cards with portions of the lyrics on them. The video has been redone in a number of styles by many artists that have followed.

17. The woman mistakes the Greek for someone she seems to know. Who does she think he is?

From Quiz Black Diamond Bay

Answer: The Ambassador to the Soviet Union

From the second verse: And as the yellow fog is lifting The Greek is quickly heading for the second floor She passes him on the spiral staircase Thinking he's the Soviet Ambassador She starts to speak, but he walks away Like many of the songs on "Desire", "Black Diamond Bay" was co-written with Jacques Levy.

18. The following lyrics can be found in which Bob Dylan song? "Early one mornin' the sun was shinin', I was layin' in bed Wond'rin' if she'd changed at all If her hair was still red"

Answer: Band of the Hand

From the soundtrack of the 1986 movie of the same name. The movie was produced by Michael Mann, of "Miami Vice" fame, and directed by Paul Michael Glaser(Hutch, from TV's Starsky and Hutch). It is a true Eighties movie, more style than substance.

20. "And all the remnants of her recent past, are scattered in the wild wind..."

From Quiz Bob Dylan Lyrics, Part One

Answer: Black Diamond Bay

21. Which song contains the following lyrics? "I gave him my blanket, he gave me his word."

From Quiz Bob Dylan Songs

Answer: "Isis"

From the wonderful "Desire" (1976) Album. A song which truly shows Bob's story telling skills.

22. How many roads must a man walk down according to a Dylan song?

From Quiz Numbers in Dylan's Lyrics

Answer: the answer is blowin' in the wind

Why did I put 42 as an option? In Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," a computer churns out the answer to the Universe: 42. But then the characters must figure out just what this means, so they say it is the answer to the question, "How many roads must a man walk down?"

23. Some have seriously argued that the Joker in "All Along the Watchtower" represents:

From Quiz Biblical Allusion in Dylan's Lyrics

Answer: Jesus Christ

Reasons for this interpretation include:
(1) The Joker is speaking to a thief, and Christ was crucified with two thieves
(2) The Joker speaks of businessmen drinking his wine and plowmen digging his earth, which accords with the Biblical picture of Christ as a husbandman of the Vineyard
(3) The thief says to the joker, "There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke. / But you and I we've been through that, and this is not our fate. /So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late.'" One of the two thieves crucified with Christ mocked him (treating life as a joke), but the other thief refused to talk falsely, recognizing that the end was at hand, and he asked Christ to remember him in His kingdom.

24. 'Because something is happening here but you don't know what it is, do you, Mister Jones?'

From Quiz Bob Dylan A-Z

Answer: 'Ballad Of a Thin Man'

First released on the 1965 album 'Highway 61 Revisited.' Never one of my personal favorites, but Dylan seems to like it --- it's on four live albums and at least one live single. 'Something is happening' became a sort of watchword in the '60s for the social upheaval that was being urged. Joseph Heller, author of 'Catch-22,' was said to have titled his novel 'Something Happened' after this song.

25. Finish this lyric: "I like to spend some time in Mozambique, the sunny sky is.."

From Quiz Bob Dylan -" Desire" Lyrics

Answer: aqua blue

From the third track, 'Mozambique'. A tale of love and romance.

26. Also in "Up to Me," the narrator leaves a note for Estelle. Where has the note been left?

From Quiz Bob Dylan Biograph Albums

Answer: in the bottle

The Thunderbird Cafe is mentioned in the song, but not in connection with Estelle. We are told that "Dupree came in pimpin' tonight to the Thunderbird Cafe."

27. 'Sometimes I feel so low-down and disgusted'...

From Quiz Bob Dylan's Opening Lines

Answer: Slow Train & 'Slow Train'

From the album....hmmmm can't really make the connection here....LOL....'SLOW TRAIN COMING'...a very interesting album.

28. 'With his candle lit into the sun Though its glow is waxed in black'

From Quiz Bob Dylan Lyrics I

Answer: Gates Of Eden

From 'Bringing it All Back Home'

29. 'No martyr is among you now, whom you can call your own. So go on your way accordingly and know you're not alone.'

From Quiz Bob Dylan Lyrics

Answer: I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine

From 'John Wesley Harding' (1967)

30. What 1966 song was derided by the folk community as a "drug song" and which contains the following lyrics? "They'll stone you when you're riding in your car. They'll stone you when you're playing your guitar."

From Quiz Dylan 1966 Lyrics

Answer: Rainy Day Women # 12 & 35

According to legend, Dylan assembled his band to rehearse this song. He provided lots of substances of questionable legality to them (and helped himself to some as well) to uh... lighten the mood a bit. Then they rehearsed the song, only Dylan had various band members switching instruments from ones they knew how to play to ones they did not. After a day or so, the band members asked when they were going to record the song. Dylan informed them that they already had. It's also said that one member of the band jokingly asked what the song was called, obviously expecting the answer to be "Everybody Must Get Stoned". Dylan responded straight-faced, "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35". The rest is history.
