4. The 2 euro cent coin is easily distinguishable from the 1 and 5 euro cent coins from looking at the edge. This is to help blind people. How is the edge of 2 euro cent coin different from the 1 and 5 euro cent coins, other than in size?

From Quiz From 0.01 to 500 Euro

Answer: There is a horizontal groove in the center

The groove was put on the 2 euro cent coin because it is the middle value of the non-reeded coins (1, 2, and 5 euro cents), and without it, it would be easy to confuse with the 1 or 5 euro cent coin just by feeling it (reaching from a pocket would be one example) or if someone is blind. The groove is also to distinguish from the United States penny, which has exactly the same diameter but has a smooth edge. The 1 and 5 euro cent coins, even though they both have a smooth edge, are much different in size, so they are not as easily confused.

5. Which country has an owl on its 1-euro coin?

Although there is no historic documentation regarding the use of the structure, historians believe that it was used for animal sacrifice, as well as as an astronomical observatory. The people of Malta were asked to choose the design of their euro coins by voting in 2006, with the idea that the top-three voted designs would be used for the coins. Mnajdra came in third in the voting. None of the other mentioned countries were members of the Eurozone by 2018. (Question contributed by ponycargirl)

From Quiz Do You Know The Euro?

From Quiz Uncommon Euro Coins

Answer: Monaco has an official agreement with the European Union.

Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City all originally had agreements with the states they were previously in a currency union with (France and Italy) allowing them to use and mint euro currency. Those were replaced by agreements with the entire European Union in the years 2010 to 2012. Monaco's first 1 euro coin (issued between 2002 and 2005) was unique in that it not only showed Prince Rainier III, the reigning monarch but also the heir apparent, Prince Albert II. The new issues since 2006 only show Albert II.

From Quiz From 0.01 to 500 Euro

Answer: Spanish 50 pesetas

The Spanish 50 peseta coin was made in the 1990s with the same 7-groove design. The design is called the Spanish flower. The 20 euro cent coin now has the same design. The reason for this shape is the same as the reason for changing the 2 euro cent coin's edge.

Between 1999 and the introduction of the euro coins and banknotes in 2002, the "national currencies" of the eleven (later twelve) countries in the eurozone were locked in absolutely fixed exchange rates. In effect, the "national currencies" were the euro denominated in different terms.

23. What precise words are displayed on the euro coin that comes between the 20 euro cent coin and the 1 euro coin? Be careful!

From Quiz From 0.01 to 500 Euro

Answer: 50 euro cent

While some currencies have their half unit shown as a half, like "half dollar" from the United States and "1/2 Fr." from Switzerland, most currencies, including the euro, have a coin showing 50 of their smaller unit. Other examples include "50 pence" from the United Kingdom, "50 cents" from Australia and Hong Kong, and "50 øre/öre" from Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
