Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first book to feature Honor Harrington, "On Basilisk Station", why is Honor's ship sent to Basilisk?

Answer: She embarrassed an admiral

Honor's ship, Fearless, had been modified to test a new weapon developed by Admiral Sonja Hemphill. In the war games, once the other ships knew of the existence of the new weaponry, Fearless was repeatedly destroyed. Although it was not Honor's fault that the grav lance didn't work out, she was sent to Basilisk Station, where incompetent officers were often posted.
2. In the second book, "Honor of the Queen", Honor is sent to the planet Grayson as part of a diplomatic mission. Which is NOT true about Grayson?

Answer: The planet is led by an elected president

Grayson was founded by members of the Church of Humanity Unchained who left Earth to found a society based on their religious beliefs. A schism among the settlers led to a civil war. The losers, who represented more fundamentalist ideas, were exiled to the neighboring planet of Masada where they launched repeated attacks against Grayson.

The Protector is the equivalent of a king on Grayson. His position is inherited.

There are no women in Grayson's military, and the Graysons found it very difficult to accept that Honor was the commander of the Manticoran ships. Until she saved the life of their ruler, that is.
3. In the third book, "A Short Victorious War", a coup takes place in the Republic of Haven, the Star Kingdom's traditional enemy. Who leads the coup and becomes head of the People's Republic of Haven?

Answer: Rob Stanton Pierre

The author sometimes refers to him as Rob S. Pierre. This is a not very subtle analogy with the French Revolution.
4. Not only is Honor an expert with starship weapons, she also has experience with "old-fashioned" guns. How many duels does Honor fight in Book 4, "Field of Dishonor"?

Answer: 2

Three duels take place in the book. In the first, Honor's lover, Paul Tankersley, is killed by hired duelist Denver Summervale. In the second, Honor kills Summervale before he has time to fire a single shot. Honor then challenges Summervale's employer, the Earl of North Hollow, to a duel. This isn't the last book in the series, so I guess you can figure out who wins.
5. After being put on half-pay by the Manticoran Navy, Honor returns to Grayson in Book 5, "Flag in Exile". What position does she hold on Grayson?

Answer: All of these

Honor became a Steadholder after rescuing Grayson from a Masadan invasion attempt in "Honor of the Queen". She also was awarded the Star of Grayson at that time. According to Grayson law, a holder of the Star of Grayson automatically becomes Protector's Champion. She is asked to serve as an admiral in the Grayson Space Navy at the beginning of "Flag in Exile".
6. In Book 6, "Honor Among Enemies", Honor is back in the Manticoran Navy. What responsibility does she have?

Answer: Hunting pirates

The Navy asked her to take on this duty at the request of several of her former adversaries. It would help them if she were successful, but they wouldn't mourn if she were killed in the process...
7. "In Enemy Hands" (Book 7) tells how Honor is captured by the People's Navy (of Haven) while on the Prince Adrian. Why was Honor on that ship?

Answer: She was attending a birthday party

The Prince Adrian was captained by Honor's second-in-command and good friend Alistair McKeon. Honor had traveled over from her flagship to confer with him, but also to participate in a surprise party. When they unexpectedly encountered the Peeps in what they had believed to be friendly territory, she could not safely return to her own ship.
8. In "Echoes of Honor" (Book 8) Honor and her crew must escape from the prison planet Hades. Approximately how many additional prisoners does she help to escape?

Answer: 356,000

When Honor arrived in friendly territory she reported "...I assure you that the rumors of my recent death have been exaggerated. I am accompanied by approximately one hundred and six thousand liberated inmates of the prison planet Hades, and I expect the arrival of another quarter million or so within the next eleven days."

There were 700 inmates in Camp Inferno, her first base, and 8000 on Styx, where the planet's administration was based.

Although the opportunity arose for her to leave sooner, Honor refused to leave without anyone who wanted to get off the planet being able to leave too.
9. The government of the People's Republic of Haven has never fully trusted its Navy. In "Ashes of Victory" (Book 9), State Security ships are assigned to work with Admirals Tourville and Giscard while actually spying on them. What does Havenite naval officer Shannon Foraker say after the SS ships blow up?

Answer: Oops

"Lester Tourville wrenched his eyes back to the fading balls of plasma which had been the ships of Citizen Rear Admiral Heemskerk's squadron. The silence on his flag bridge was total...
"And then the spell was broken as Shannon Foraker looked up from the console from which she had just sent a perfectly innocent-seeming computer code over the tactical net to one of the countless ops plans she'd downloaded to the units of the Twelfth Fleet over the last thirty-two T-months. 'Oops,' she said."
10. What character, who has been mentioned "offstage" in previous books appears for the first time in Book 10, "War of Honor"?

Answer: Emily Alexander, Admiral White Haven's wife

Emily was concerned about media attacks on her husband and Honor, and about accusations that they had been lovers.

Prince Justin appears briefly in "Ashes of Victory" as well as in "Queen's Gambit", a short story by Jane Lindskold in the anthology "Worlds of Honor". Alfred Harrington first appears in "Echoes of Honor". Eloise Pritchart was a People's Commissioner in several of the previous books.
