Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where did Muddy Waters live before he moved to Chicago?

Answer: on a plantation in Mississippi

Muddy Waters was seen working on the plantation in the beginning of the movie. Later on in the film while he was on tour, they drove through Mississippi and he mentioned it as "home".
2. When Muddy was out on the street in Chicago, who gave him the cord for his guitar amplifier?

Answer: Geneva

Geneva, who was played by Gabrielle Union and was Muddy's wife in the movie, heard him playing his guitar outside of her window. She called down to him and told him he was disturbing the peace. After a brief encounter, they became lovers and she was seen throwing the amplifier cord down to him.
3. Who discovered that Muddy Waters and Little Walter had talent in music?

Answer: Leonard Chess

Leonard Chess was the founder of Chess Records who loved all types of music. Muddy Waters and Little Walter played at Leonard's club one night and "chopped" the other players' heads off.
4. What did Little Walter refer to Geneva as?

Answer: his mother

After Muddy and Walter played at Leonard's club, Walter was seen eating at Geneva's house. Muddy referred to him as "son" and Walter got offended. Geneva quickly brought the altercation to a halt and told Walter that what he needed was a mother. He replied by saying, "You know what they say, a man can't have too many mamas."
5. Why did Little Walter shoot another black man while they were on the Chitlin' Circuit?

Answer: He stole his name.

After shooting the man who claimed to be Little Walter, Walter explained to Ordell, who was riding along with him and Muddy, that the man was stealing his name and therefore his money. Both Muddy and Ordell thought Walter took it a little too far.
6. How did Leonard Chess meet Etta James?

Answer: She was brought to the hotel room.

Etta was brought to a hotel room by another man Leonard knew, but told him she wasn't in the mood. Afterward, Etta went in the bathroom and began to sing. Leonard immediately recorded her.
7. Why did Etta get upset in the restaurant Leonard bought out for her?

Answer: Her father didn't accept her.

Etta tried talking to her father; however, after meeting him, he wouldn't accept her as his daughter. Once she got upset, she asked for a bottle of gin and the waiters acted like they couldn't hear her. They did eventually deliver the bottle, but only when Leonard asked them. That added fuel to the fire.
8. What was wrong with the Cadillac Leonard bought for Little Walter when he brought it back to the recording studio?

Answer: All of the doors were off the hinges.

Leonard was furious! He had purchased the Cadillac for Walter as gratitude for his well selling records. When he asked Walter what happened to the doors, he said he didn't need them.
9. Muddy asked Geneva why she was holding a baby girl when he got home. What was her response?

Answer: "A woman came by today and said she's yours."

Muddy always cheated on Geneva when he went on tour. The baby girl was a product of one of his affairs. That night, he was drunk and told her that the baby would stay. Geneva ended up keeping the baby anyway because she couldn't give Muddy children of his own.
10. How did Leonard Chess die?

Answer: He had a heart attack.

At the end of the movie, Leonard Chess was shown leaving Chess Records for good. As he looked in the rear view mirror at his spinning record trademark, he had a heart attack driving down the street.
