Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What IS referred to as a Scarborough suitcase?

Answer: A 12 pack of beer

A twelve pack of beer, with its ingenious pop-up handle can only be purchased (in Ontario) at an "In and Out" store! Not to be confused with two dozen, also known as a two-four! Scarborough is a suburb of Toronto, sometimes known as Scarberia. This phrase is not used much by those who live there.
2. While all Canadians are "hosers", what is the real origin of the name?

Answer: A person who steals gas from a parked car by siphoning it out with a hose

The hoser was a gas thief in Western Canada. The term became a widespread nickname for the average Canadian when used by Bob and Doug MacKenzie on SCTV.
3. Some Canadians call a baseball catcher a "Backcatcher".

Answer: True

Just another term that makes our American friends scratch their heads.
4. As residents of Ontario know, the "In and Out" store sells what?

Answer: Beer

The Beer Store, or Brewer's Retail, has large orange signs in the parking lot denoting the in driveway and the out driveway, thus the term "The In and Out Store"!
5. What's a Loonie?

Answer: A one dollar coin

When it was introduced, the one dollar coin, with its Loon on the tail, was quickly dubbed the Loonie, followed closely by the Toonie, the two dollar coin.
6. Who are "the Habs"?

Answer: a hockey team

The Montreal Canadiens are nicknamed "the Habs" for Les Habitants, the first settlers of Montreal. They have won the Stanley Cup more times than any franchise in the National Hockey League.
7. What's Armadillo Ale?

Answer: Molson Export Ale

Molson Export is sometimes called Armadillo Ale because if you've had a few and you turn the bottle sideways, the sailing ship logo looks a little like an Armadillo...
8. What's a Surrey dinner jacket?

Answer: A red and black checked jacket

Most Canadians have at least one of each in the closet, but the red and black Mackinaw jacket is so Canadian it hurts. Surrey is a suburb of Vancouver, and is a working class town, frequently put down by snooty Vancouverites.
9. What's a bluenoser?

Answer: A Nova Scotian

A bluenoser is a term for those who hail from Nova Scotia. Named after the famous sailing schooner (which is also featured on the Canadian ten cent piece)!
10. "That's right good" means what?

Answer: All of these

This quiz has been right good, but so is back bacon, an American joke and a ride on a skidoo! I hope you enjoyed our Canadian slang quiz, eh! Specially you Merricans!
