Hitler was banned from public speaking until 1927. He was also forbidden to make public speeches in Prussia, Saxony, Hamburg and Baden.

Hitler had first become the leader of the Nazi Party on 29 July, 1921 and even that was surrounded by controversy. In order to gain his position as the leader of the Nazi Party he threatened to resign if he wasn't given complete control. The other party members eventually gave in and accepted his terms. Hitler lost the position due to the failed Beer Hall Putsch and the subsequent time spent in prison.

He worked his way back into the party after his release. After winning back total control of the Nazi Party in 1926 he was called 'Fuhrer' from that point on.

After being released from prison in 1924 Hitler began a restructuring of the Nazi Party.

The period between 1926 and 1929 were the 'quiet years' for Hitler. He had gained the leadership of the Nazi Party and watched as the party membership slowly grew in size. During this period he spent time in the mountains of Bavaria and travelling around the Germany.

It was in 1926 that Hitler met Joseph Goebbels. Goebbels kept a diary and would write about his love and admiration for Hitler. Hitler appointed Goebbels as the Gauleiter of Berlin in 1926.

The Gauleiter was the name given to a member of the Nazi Party that was allocated as the party leader for a selected district/province of Germany.
Gau was German for 'district' (region or shire) and Leiter translates to 'leader'.

Goebbels would later become the Nazi Party Propaganda Minister.

Göring joined the Nazi Party in 1922. He was involved in the Beer Hall Putsch with Hitler.

The original title was changed by Max Amann to "Mein Kampf" (meaning: My Struggle). The long title that Hitler wanted would have proclaimed loud and clear that the man had a grudge.

Amann was the manager of the Nazi publishing company and insisted on the name change. The book explained how Germany was going to be made great again and revealed just how much Hitler hated the Jews.

Hitler was a millionaire by 1933 as a result of the book and the royalties he received.

Hitler wrote a sequel to "Mein Kampf" but it was never published, in fact, only two copies were made. The manuscripts were located after the end of the European war, where they had been carefully stored in an air raid shelter. This book is generally referred to by historians as the "Zweites Buch" (Second book). It discussed his foreign policy aims and would have been most revealing, had it been published in the late 1920s.

It is currently illegal to possess a copy of "Mein Kampf" in Austria.

Hitler invited his half-sister, Angela Raubal, to become his housekeeper in 1928. When Raubal arrived at the villa in the Bavarian mountains she was accompanied by her daughters, Geli and Friedl.
Geli was 20 years old at the time, Hitler was 39. Hitler fell for her immediately and they were always seen together. Hitler was very possessive of her and that ultimately led to her death.

Geli wanted to go to Vienna and Hitler flat out refused to let her go. Following an argument between the two, Geli committed suicide by shooting herself through the heart. Hitler was devastated by the loss and came close to committing suicide himself. He didn't, only because his friends stayed close-by to prevent him from doing harm to himself.

Eva and Hitler met in 1929 at her work place where she was a lab assistant and model. The shop was owned by Heinrich Hoffmann, Hitler's photographer.

It wasn't until 1932 that Eva became Hitler's mistress, but even then they would not be seen in public together.

In 1932 and 1935 Eva tried to kill herself.

The first attempt was unusual as she tried to kill herself in the same manner that Geli had successfully killed herself - with a bullet through the heart.

The second attempt was not so dramatic, she used pills, but it had the desired effect - Hitler started to pay more attention to her.

On 30 January, 1933 Adolf Hitler became the Chancellor of Germany. This would be the beginning of the end for Germany. Hitler would later declare himself the dictator of Germany, enforce harsh laws and plunge the world into a world war following a series of conquests over neighbouring countries.

In a side issue, it should be noted that Hitler did not become a German citizen until 25 February 1932. He was unable to run against the President, Paul Von Hindenburg, in the elections until he became a German citizen. In order to achieve this he was given a post as a civil servant position in the state of Braunschweig (Brunswick).

Hitler could have become a German citizen a lot earlier if he had wanted to. In 1930 a Nazi Party member arranged for him to be a constable in Hildburghausen. However, being a cop was not too appealing to Hitler, so he didn't accept the position.

The government initially wanted Hitler and his Nazi Party to join them in a coalition government, but Hitler refused.

President von Hindenburg did not trust Hitler but he decided to appoint Hitler as Chancellor due to the popularity that Hitler had achieved. The plan was to keep Hitler under control, but in reality it just gave Hitler further powers to execute his master plan.
