Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sita was found on the soil by King Janak and Queen Sunaina. She was an avatar of a goddess, but which one?

Answer: Anagha

Sita, the daughter of Janak, was found on the earth in the field by Janak. She later married Vishnu as Rama because she was an avatar of Lakshmi, Vishnu's wife. Anagha is another name of Lakshmi. Saraswati is called Medha and Parvati is called Ambika and Annika.
2. Sita's childhood revolved around eating, sleeping, praying to Lord Vishnu and playing. She had three very good friends. They also got married at the same place, day and time she did. Who were they?

Answer: Mandavi, Urmila, and Sutkirti

Urmila was the daughter born to Janak and Sunaina. Mandavi and Sutkirti were born to Kushdwaj and his wife. The four girls shared the utmost respect and love. Urmila married Lakshman, Mandavi married Bharat and Sutkirti married Satrughna -- all brothers of Rama.
3. After Sita got married to Rama and spent a few days happily, they had to go into exile. On the way, they met many sages. What did Sage Atri's wife, Anusuya, give to Sita?

Answer: Clothes and a jewel that would never fade

Anusuya was Sage Atri's wife. She was very powerful and chaste. Once, when the place she used to live was burning from heat and the rain refused to pour for 10 years, she started performing penance. She then got a promise from Mother Ganga that the river would flow there. It was the same Anusuya who gave Sita the jewel and clothes.
4. A few years passed and Sita was kidnapped by Ravan. She was shut away in the garden with demons keeping an eye on her. But there were two people living in the palace of Ravan who were kind to her. Who were they?

Answer: Mandhodhari and Vibhishan

When Sita was shut in the garden of Ravan, only two of Ravan's family members helped her. One was Vibhishan, Ravan's brother. He was kind to Sita because he knew that Sita was the avatar of Lakshmi. The other was Mandhodhari, Ravan's wife. She was kind to Sita as she believed Sita was her guest and it was her duty to be kind to her guest.
5. Now outside of Ravan's palace, one of the demonesses loved Sita like her daughter. Who was she?

Answer: Trijata

Trijata was one of Ravan's most trusted servants, though Trijata didn't like what he did to Sita. She considered Sita her goddess and also her daughter.
6. After four or five long months of waiting by Sita, Hanuman finally appeared. Still, Sita had her doubts. How could a monkey be her Lord's spy? Hanuman eventually made her believe in him. What did he do?

Answer: He gave her the ring she had given to Rama to pay the boatman

Hanuman, after he flew over the ocean, killed three demons to reach Sita in the garden. He then watched how the demons and Ravan acted towards her. After night fell, he sang poetry about Ram and Sita. He then appeared in front of her. That was when Sita had her doubts and he showed her the ring to make her believe in him.
7. After burning down Lanka, Hanuman flew back to Rama. What sign of Sita did he bring from her with those messages?

Answer: A jewel for a princess's attire

Hanuman, the clever monkey, asked Sita to give him a sign of her, a sign that Rama would recognize just by looking at it. Sita just took her formal jewel off her attire.
8. The battle was over. Ravan was killed and Sita and Ram were crowned King and Queen. Happiness were there again -- for a short time. Sita was accused of not being chaste and faithful by her subjects. She had to go into exile. Where did she stay?

Answer: At Valmiki's ashram

Sita spent the rest of her life, after she was thrown out of Ayodhya, in Valmiki's ashram. It was there that she gave birth to the twins: Luv and Kush.
9. After she gave birth to Luv and Kush, Sita was unknowingly visited by Satrughna. Satrughna also helped name the twins. Where was Satrughna going?

Answer: To kill Lavanasur

Lavanasur was the nephew of Ravan. He was very angry at Rama as Rama had killed his uncle. He devoured sages and one of them went to Ram to ask for help. Ram sent Satrughna to kill the demon. Lavanasur also had a trident of Shiva that killed his enemies. On the way, Satrughna stopped by Valmiki's ashram and helped him name the twins.
10. Luv and Kush grew bigger. They conquered Rama's horse and defeated his army. They then sang the life story of Sita, which left people in tears. Still, the people of Ayodhya did not accept her. What did Sita do then?

Answer: Promised that she was faithful, summoned the earth goddess and went inside the earth

This was the worst part of Sita's life. Though even the Sage Valmiki swore that she was faithful, the subjects of Ayodhya were not ready to accept her as their queen. She then summoned the mother earth by promising she was always faithful to her husband. Mother earth appeared and Sita went inside the earth with her because this world didn't respect women.
