Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's start off with a short one. This word means "A narcotic shrub from India".

Answer: QAT

QAT was the most played word in Scrabble until 2006 when QI (A force that in Chinese thought is found in everything) was added to the OWL.
2. Ready for a little longer? This word can (according to OWL) also be spelled with both a C and a K, uncommon in Q without U words.

Answer: QADI

Unacceptable "forms" of the other 3 words include KAID, FACIR, and KINTAR, which have yet to be added but maybe will be soon. KAID is acceptable in the Worldwide dictionary (CSW) already.
3. As I said in the intro, the longest Q without U word is 9 letters, but what is this word?

Answer: MBAQANGAS

Despite QINDARKA being a noun (An Albanian currency), and its other forms (QINDAR, QINTAR) taking an S, QINDARKAS is not a word in the OWL, possibly due to it already being plural. Little is known about some world currencies' plurality.
4. True or false, SHEQELS is the only plural of the word SHEQEL (An old unit for weights and money).

Answer: False

The other acceptable plural in the OWL is SHEQALIM, which gives you hints to the word's origin. Sheqels can be played for the extra 50 points in Scrabble.
5. What is the shortest word in the OWL containing both a Q and an H?

Answer: QOPH

QOPH is a letter in the Hebrew alphabet. Despite its origin, QOPHIM and QOPHOT are not acceptable plurals. If you put FIQH, it's not in the OWL despite being a word.
6. This word alternates consonants and As, and can be spelled with a Q, a C, or a K. What word is this?

Answer: QABALA

The definition is a secret or concealed belief. QABALAH (Meaning the same thing) is an acceptable word in tournament play too, however KABALAH and CABALAH are not acceptable in the OWL.
7. True or false, no Q without U word is shorter then 3 letters.

Answer: False

QI, despite being a recent addition to the OWL, is only two letters long.
8. This word is very rare because it ends in Q. It also is the only of these (according to OWL) to not contain a U. What word is this?

Answer: TRANQ

The only other words to end in Q in the OWL dictionary are SUQ (A type of marketplace) and UMIAQ (A type of boat).
9. True or false, WAQF is an acceptable word in the OWL dictionary.

Answer: False

It is however legal in the CSW dictionary, meaning "a respectful, religious donation".
10. This word means "someone practicing self denial for Hinduism". It also starts with an F. What word is this?

Answer: FAQIR

FAQIR can be 42 points if played on the first turn of a Scrabble game.
