Answer: Henley Street

He was born in Henley Street and after becoming famous, moved to New Place which stood opposite the Guild Chapel on Chapel Street.
2. In which year did Shakespeare finally retire from public life and return to Stratford?

Answer: 1611

Shakespeare bought New Place in 1597 but did not move there until he retired in 1611. It is not there any more as in 1759, the then owner, Reverend Francis Gastrell, got fed up with the tourists and ordered his servants to pull down Shakespeare's house. The people of Stratford drove him out of town!
3. A short drive from Stratford is the house where Shakespeare's wife had lived. What is the name of this house?

Answer: Anne Hathaway's Cottage

Mary Arden was his mother and his daughter, Susanna, lived in Hall's Croft. Both venues can still be visited today.

Charlecote Park houses a Tudor House and is about five miles from Stratford-upon Avon. The park has landscaped gardens and a deer park designed by Capability Brown. It is in this park that it is reputed Shakespeare was caught poaching!

James I wanted England to produce its own silk and so had lots of mulberry trees brought to England. Shakespeare was sent a cutting to plant in his house in Stratford.

He is buried between his wife, Anne, and his daughter, Susanna. The plaque over his grave reads "Good frend for Jesus sake forebeare, To digg the dust encloased heare; Bleste be the man that spares thes stones, And curst be he that moves my bones." It is thought this may have prevented his bones being dug up!
