During his time at law school Kyle spent two years coaching the Red Knights, a team in the New Haven Youth League. It wasn't an easy job. "Trying to control ten inner-city kids with a soft touch had put the Red Knights in last place in the 12 and Under division of the winter league."

Answer: A film of a party from Kyle's college days

Somehow (and we never find out how) Bennie Wright has in his possession a video made on a cell phone of a drunken party at Kyle's Duquesne apartment. The second part of it shows the alleged rape of Elaine Keenan by Baxter Tate and Joey Bernardo.

Answer: Jeff Tabor

Jeff Tabor is one of the new recruits who Kyle works with at Scully and Pershing. The other three all roomed together with Kyle and all four were involved in the police investigation in the "Elaine incident".

Answer: Take a public interest position

Kyle has been offered a job by Scully and Pershing (as well as several other big law firms which he has turned down). He would like to work there at a later date but plans to first spend a couple of years in a legal aid position in Virginia helping migrant workers. Scully and Pershing have agreed to hold their job offer for him while he does this.

As a result of the blackmail, though, Kyle's plans are forced to change and he goes straight to Scully and Pershing.

Chapter 16 begins, "Any hope of pursuing meaningful work was promptly crushed at 7:30 Monday morning when all twelve new litigation associates were sent into the abyss of Document Review." Kyle is rescued towards the end of the second day by Doug Peckham who wants Kyle to carry out some urgent research for him. Kyle diligently puts in long hours to prepare the summary for Peckham only to find that the crisis is over and that he wasted his time.

At a later point Kyle does end up estimating Peckham's hours and driving Peckham and another colleague, Noel Bard, to the court. Kyle is looking forward to going to his first court appearance but ends up not making it inside. He chauffeurs Peckham and Bard in Bard's wife's new Jaguar but as a parking space can't be found anywhere he ends up driving around the block until Bard and Peckham are ready to leave again.

Answer: Litigation

It is the litigation department that is working on the Trylon-Bartin case. Only by working in that department will Kyle have access to the information that Wright is after.

Answer: Hypersonic Bomber

The case concerns the development of the B-10 Hypersonic Bomber being designed jointly by two companies (Trylon and Bartin) in a bid to win the Air Force contract. A huge amount of money is, of course, at stake. Trylon and Bartin, after winning the contract, are fighting over who actually owns the designs and technology.

Answer: Because he is about to apologise to Elaine

Baxter, having been through rehab, finds God through a pastor at a halfway house. Having thought and prayed a lot about the people he has hurt in the past, he is determined to talk to Elaine and apologise to her for taking advantage of her on the night that she claims she was raped. If he is allowed to go ahead with this and Elaine accepts his apology the film will have lost its power and Bennie Wright will no longer have any leverage to blackmail Kyle into doing what Wright wants him to do.

Kyle has never told Baxter about the video or the fact that he is being blackmailed.

Baxter is well off, having an allowance from the family money sent to him each month by his uncle Wally.

Answer: Saving them to a portable hard drive

Bennie Wright's techno-sidekick, Nigel, develops a heavy-duty customised hard drive which fits neatly into a specially designed replica of Kyle's briefcase. Kyle has to find a ruse to get himself under the desk so that he can connect this device into the USB port at the back of Scully and Pershing's computer. It is then just a case of downloading the relevant documents!

Kyle and Joey make use of a pen camera earlier in the book. Kyle wants some video of Bennie Wright. He purchases a pen camera for a disguised Joey to use on Wright as he walks through a hotel lobby.

Answer: Join his father's law firm

Kyle decides, after a few days of being protected by the FBI, that he cannot cope with a lifetime in the witness protection program. He decides that he'll take his chances and go home to work with his father. "Real clients. Real people. Real cases. Deer hunting on Saturdays, Steelers on Sundays. A real life."

Dale takes a job back in her hometown of Providence having found the pressure of working at a high-powered firm like Scully and Pershing taking a toll on her health. Whether she and Kyle continue their relationship is a question that is unanswered.
