Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What year is this almanak for?

Answer: The prawn

This is for the common year of 400 days (from one cold season to the next). Owing to the peculiarities of a world on the back of a turtle the true celestial year is 800 days.
2. What is the significance of the late Mrs Edith Barnfather?

Answer: Name of a meteorite that would land in the sea near Quirm if the great A'Tuin did not take evasive action.

It was named after an aunt of the discoverer.
Retrophrenology works on the principal that if the bumps on your head control your character, altering the bumps will alter your character.
3. According to the almanak: in Muntab, in April, there will be a rain of what?

Answer: Bedsteads

It will turn to chairs later. Remember - most rains of curry occur in Klatch.
4. The entry for the month of Ember talks of fungi. What is the difference between a Gnats Deathcap and the Horse Truffle?

Answer: The deathcaps gollets turn purple if pressed with a silver spoon.

As the almanak says, all fungi are edible but some are only edible once.
5. People born under this astrological sign are said to be "avaricious and, if a woman, inclined to store peas".

Answer: The crab

The celestial parsnip will soon disappear owing to the motion of the turtle. This presents an excellent opportunity (for a reasonable fee) to transfer to another astrological sign.
6. Which of these is not a constellation? Warning - this could be considered a trick question.

Answer: Mr Williams

Mr Williams is in the list on constellations but is apparently a sailor who was blown so far off the rim in a gale that he went into orbit.
7. What does the almanak say about people born under the sign 'Occasional paddles'?

Answer: They are the people who sell individual roses in restaurants.

They have got to be born under some sign and this one is not very big.
8. Which of these is not a variety of cabbage listed in the almanak?

Answer: Imperial purple

The Kendle green is actually red. This is considered a great joke on the Sto plains. Aren't you glad you do not live there?
9. What did Makepeace Thomas Bounder, the poet of cabbages, call "this swollen bag of dirty water"?

Answer: The potato.

Mr Bounder would have approved of Josiah, as he was a painter who devoted himself to depictions of cabbages and related plants. From the extracts of Mr Bounder's work provided, at least two famous roundworld poets have either plagiarised or paraphrased his works.
10. Which of these claims is made in the advertisement by Soon Shine Sun (a tailor)?

Answer: "All clothing guaranteed uninhabited"

Mr Bounder, the poet of cabbages, would not have approved of the claim about the lack of cabbage products. The illustration of him shows him in his typical costume which was made entirely of cabbage products.
