Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many owners have to die on the liveship in order for it to awaken?

Answer: 3

Althea and Keffria's father was the third owner and Vivacia awakened after his death. To Althea's horror the ship was given over to Kyle Haven instead of her and the member of family that always had to be on the ship was Wintrow.
2. On how many ships did Althea and Brashen travel together?

Answer: 3

At first, he was the first mate on her father's ship and her father took her with him for years. The next time was when she got hired on the ship in order to get a ticket and prove that she was a good crew member, but she did not get the ticket since the captain found out that she wasn't the boy she pretended to be.

The next time was on Paragon where she sailed as the second hand and Brashen was the captain.
3. What is the name of Althea and Keffria's strong-willed mother?

Answer: Ronica

Ronica Vestrit plays her own role in the book, being a very strong woman. At first, she keeps the household together and tries to regulate Malta and later plays a significant role in uniting Bingtown after its destruction. Malta is Keffria's daughter and Vivacia is their family ship.
4. What is the name of Kennit's woman that wins Wintrow's respect along with the respect of the whole crew?

Answer: Etta

Etta, who used to be a whore in Divvytown, sails with Kennit after the attempt on his life in the brothel and falls in love with him. Meanwhile, Wintrow teaches her to read and eventually she becomes the Queen of the Pirate Isles after Kennit's death. Serilla is the Companion of the Heart of the Satrap, but leaves him in order to seize power in Bingtown.
5. What is the true name of the dragon that is set in the world by Reyn and Selden?

Answer: Tintaglia

Tintagliaia awakens from her cocoon to find out that the dragons completely disappeared and sets out to help her kind to survive by helping the serpents to get to the cocooning grounds where they can transform into dragons. Bold is what the dragon inside Vivacia calls herself. Shreever and Maulking are two serpents from the tangle that Maulkin and She Who Remembers are leading.
6. What is the name of the beadmaker in Bingtown who is also the same creature as Fool in 'The Farseer' series?

Answer: Amber

Amber is the most mysterious person in the whole book because her intentions never become known even though she does much good and helps Paragon immensely.
7. Which pair becomes the first generation of Elderlings in many years?

Answer: Malta and Reyn

Because of their contact with the dragon, Malta and Reyn both change their appearances to become Elderlings. They are supposed to marry and become King and Queen and work towards the restoration of the dragon race and the race of Elderlings as well.
8. What is the event that breaks Serilla, but with her restoration makes her very power-hungry?

Answer: She is raped on the Chalcedean ship

While travelling towards Bingtown, after her refusal to sleep with Satrap, she is given to the captain of the ship who is Chalcedean and who totally breaks her will. However, Satrap restores her as the Companion and she forces him to sign a paper that ceedes her power in Bingtown. Only after Ronica's influence and help, Serilla is able to really heal and at the end of the book she receives a proper place in Bingtown without trying to get the control.
9. During all the travels Satrap remained the same person he was.

Answer: False

Realizing that no one respects him as a person and that without the throne he is nothing, Satrap changes very much. Even though at the end he is still very arrogant, he becomes smarter and takes the ruling into his hands instead of allowing the nobles to do whatever they want for the favors.
10. Which of the following has no relation to Kennit?

Answer: Brashen

Since it's discovered that Kennit is actually Ludluck, Paragon happens to be his family ship. As a child, Kennit was held captive on Paragon by the pirate, Igrot, who took over the ship. He abused Kennit and made him blind Paragon so that Paragon could never find the treasure that Igrot hid. Later Amber restores Paragon's eyes and he is able to take Brashen and Althea to the place where Igrot hid the treasures. Sorcor was Kennit's first mate until Kennit took over Vivacia and commanded Sorcor to become the captain of Marietta.
11. When Reyn expresses his interest in Malta, his family takes over the debt on Vivacia in order for Vivacia to be his wedding present. Who is the head of the Khuprus household?

Answer: Jani

Jani Khuprus was the trader for their family. She was glad that Reyn expressed interest in marrying and bargained with him to leave the dragon in the chamber in order for him to allow Malta's family to get out of debt. Bendir is Reyn's elder brother who kept disapproving of him. Selden in Malta's younger brother and Semoy is the second mate on Paragon.
12. Kyle Haven is killed by Kennit.

Answer: False

Kennit takes Kyle Haven to the Key Island and leaves him chained there with his mother and three former slaves who live there. Later Brashen comes to take Kennit's mother and takes Kyle as well. Kyle is killed on Paragon's deck when Jamaillian galleys chaise after two liveships.
13. What is one ship that stays its former self even after most ships discover the dragon part in themselves?

Answer: Ophelia

Paragon is actually unique in his ordeal because he is made out of two cocoons and he has two dragons in him which partly caused his madness, but after the discovery and Kennit's death Paragon becomes much more stable. Kendry, Khuprus's family ship, became absolutely unmanageable. Only Ophelia and couple other ships did not find dragon parts in themselves.

It is theorized that the dragons died in them before they were made into ships.
14. Which of these people are not dead at the end of the book?

Answer: Sorcor

Sorcor is quite well and alive at the end of the book. He plans to protect Etta and her baby very carefully along with Wintrow of course. Kekki, Satrap's Companion, dies on Chalcedean ship after drinking water from the Rain Wilds River.
15. Is there a person in the novel who is from Six Duchies?

Answer: Yes

Jek came from Six Duchies. That is the setting of the other Robin Hobb's trilogy 'The Farseer'. 'The Liveship Traders' also seems to be set right after the events of 'The Farseer' because Jek mentions the danger of being Forged and then the dragons she saw that Verity awoke. Then 'The Tawny Man' series that Robin Hobb is working on follow timewise after 'The Liveship Traders'.
