"Lord of the Flies" was written by William Golding in 1954, and is now constantly used as a text for school children to read. Now everyone can enjoy the book!
2. Which named characters are murdered during the novel?

Answer: Simon, Piggy

Simon is accidentally killed by the boys during the frenzy of their ritual dance, but later they deny it, not believing they killed the poor boy. Piggy is killed by Roger pushing a rock down the mountain of the Castle Rock. Piggy falls to his death. A little boy with a birthmark also disappears during the wildfire, he could be included in the death toll.
3. During which chapter does the parachutist land on the island?

Answer: Chapter six

When Samneric see the dead body of the parachutist bulging on the mountain, they think it is actually the "beast", and run off.
4. How many chapters are in "Lord of the Flies"?

Answer: 12

Chapter One- The Sound of the Shell. Chapter Two- Fire on the Mountain. Chapter Three- Huts on the Beach. Chapter Four- Painted Faces and Long Hair. Chapter Five- Beast from Water. At the end, they are rescued by a ship. A British Naval Officer finds Ralph just before Jack and the hunters attack him.

Piggy is the one who spots the shell, and calls it "a conch". Ralph picks it up, blows it, and soon the beach is filled with boys.

When Piggy and Jack argue and start to fight, Jack strikes Piggy across the face, knocking the glasses to the ground. Simon picks them up for Piggy.
8. How many times has "Lord of the Flies" been made into a movie?

It was made into a film first in 1963, and was directed by Peter Brook, then again in 1990, this time directed by Harry Hook. The 1963 version is usually said to be the more accurate adaptation, and sticks to Golding's novel for most of the script.

Answer: Pig

The only animal the boys find on the island that they can hunt is really pigs. The pig they decapitate is a fat sow, and Jack places its head on a sharpened stick in the ground.

James Aubrey played Ralph, Tom Chapin played Jack, and Hugh Edwards played Piggy.
