Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Julie Andrews, kittens have this. What favorite thing is this?

Answer: whiskers

In the "Sound Of Music" Julie blessed us with her beautiful voice. "These Are a Few of My Favorite Things" was one of the most memorable songs for this movie. Lately Julie has lost some of her precious and beautiful voice. What a loss!
2. I have this beautiful plant. It's supposed to get these little red berries on them. I guess I don't have a male and female. So it never seeds, so needless to say, no red berries. To what plant am I referring?

Answer: Holly

There is actually both a male and a female holly bush. The only way to get the red berries is to have the two bushes close together, so they can seed and bloom. Once that happens, you should have little red berries all over the place.
3. What Christmas song are these words from? "There's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well..."

Answer: It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas

I wonder if they are referring to the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island in Michigan? Do you think they meant The Grand Hotel in Vegas, The MGM Grand? Maybe they meant the Grand Hotel Francais in Paris, France. Actually, I have been to all three places, just walked by, but didn't stay at any of them.
4. Santa is bringing this to all boys and girls, if they're good anyhow.

Answer: Toys

I've had favorite toys over the years. I always wanted the Easy Bake Oven, but I never got one. My mom said it was a waste of money when we already had a real stove in the house. Then I wanted the game, Mystery Date, but we couldn't afford that either. I did get a skate case one time, no skates, but a skate case, in case I ever got skates. Now I have the skates, but the wheels are wooden.

The good old days!
5. You can drink this yuletide drink, either with or without alcohol. What is this rich tasting drink that includes, an egg, sugar, salt, vanilla, milk and nutmeg?

Answer: Egg nog

Some people have added bourbon or rum to their mixtures. Some people have even added coconut juice or milk to create a different taste. I personally like the carton myself, but only once a year, since this is too rich for my blood.
6. Watch out little Who-s down in Who-ville, cause I'll ruin your holidays. Nah, I'm not the Grinch, but I've played him. What is my last name? By the way, he was in "Liar, Liar" too.

Answer: Carrey

Jim Carrey was born in Canada back in 1962. This was actually one of the few movies that I enjoyed the wacky Carrey. I was not a fan of his until "The Truman Show". He didn't act like a looney toon character and that I really enjoyed. I watched "Liar, Liar" and it was just a little too wacky for my blood. All his expressions can get to a person after a while.

But then again, that's "The Grinch" for you.
7. What is the old black and white Christmas movie that stars Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire?

Answer: Holiday Inn

This is one of my favorite Christmas time movies. I enjoyed the humor and dancing and singing throughout the entire movie. The song "White Christmas" originated in this movie, which was sung by Bing Crosby. Linda, who was played by Marjorie Reynolds, joined in singing with Jim Hardy, who was portrayed by Bing. What a delightful movie!
8. My nephew is a famous George that starred on the "Roseanne" show. I'm also the mother-in-law of Debby Boone. My son is the famous Miguel Ferrer. Do you know who I am? Just my first name will do.

Answer: Rosemary

The beautiful Rosemary Clooney played "Sisters" Betty Haynes in the movie, "White Christmas". She and Vera-Ellen were sisters in the movie. They sang a cute song titled "Sisters". It was so comical when Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye sang "Sisters" so the girls could take off quickly.

The way you see them laughing on stage singing, this was NOT acting. They were having fun, you can tell. Another great flick.
9. All I have to say is "every time a bell rings..." and you should be able to name this movie. Can you name this Christmas movie?

Answer: It's A Wonderful Life

One of those movies that make you feel like your life is pretty special. James Stewart and Donna Reed have been entertaining audiences since 1946 with this special movie. Four of the categories that this movie was nominated for were lost to the movie, "The Best Years of Our Lives" with Fredric March. It was not a wonderful year for an Oscar.
10. "________ring are you listening? In the lane, snow is..." Can you fill in the missing lyrics?

Answer: sleigh bells

"Winter Wonderland" was performed by many artists, including Garth Brooks, a country way. The Beatles, a rock and roll way. Jewel, a ladies way. But no matter what way you sing it, it's a beautiful holiday piece.

"Snow is glistening, A beautiful sight, We're happy tonight, Walking in a winter wonderland."
11. Are you getting in the holiday spirit? Are you ready to ask Santa Claus for something special? Maybe you'd like what Danny Kaye wanted one year. What was that he wanted in that song again?

Answer: Two front teeth

This is such a cute song by Danny Kaye and the Andrews Sisters. He didn't want a doll or a dress, just the two front teeth.
12. Let's have a Christmas question from the very first Christmas. Who is the mother of Jesus?

Answer: Mary

If you want to read the most beautiful Christmas story of all, open your Bible to Matthew, chapters 1, starting with verse 18. The best Christmas story.
13. He danced with Rogers and many other famous faces in the early years. He taps his way onto the screen like no other. What is his last name?

Answer: Astaire

Frederick Austerlitz was born in Nebraska in 1899. Frederick was nicknamed "Fritz." Fred was only nominated for one Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in "The Towering Inferno". Fred did win a Special Honorary Award in 1950 for his roles in musical films.
14. Say, shall we grab these and hang them by the fireplace. Let's do that, but I really don't want a lump of coal in mine. What am I thinking of?

Answer: stockings

"The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes..." I love that story. Grab the book, "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and hop in bed with your kids, tuck them in and read them this story.
15. What great Christmas movie stars Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye? General, can you answer this for me?

Answer: White Christmas

I liked "Holiday Inn" better than this movie. "White Christmas" was actually made as a spin off from the song "White Christmas" in the movie "Holiday Inn". When I hit the lottery, I'm taking off for Vermont and buying an Inn and going to re-create the Inn. I'll have Christmas year round. Turkey and ham for dinner on the menu. I'll have the fireplace going and play old time movies every night.
Thanks for playing my Christmas quiz. I have so much fun creating them. I certainly hope you enjoy them as much. Have yourself a wonderful holiday season.
