Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which country was Nelson Mandela born?

Answer: South Africa

Nelson Mandela was born in the small village of Qunu on South Africa's eastern cape in 1918. His father was a respected official in Qunu but later on he lost everything when he failed to complete the orders of a white magistrate.
2. What was "apartheid"?

Answer: Racial segregation

In South Africa, black Africans, "coloureds" (that is, people of Indian descent) and white Africans were all kept separate as far as practical. Originally, there were some local variations, but after the victory of the hardline and partly pro-Nazi Afrikaner Nationalists in the (white only) 1947 general election, the system was applied ruthlessly across South Africa.

The white minority called this "separate development" but in fact it was a shameless system of white supremacy.
