Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This game was first made by Milton Bradley in 1860. A 100-year anniversary tribute game was made in 1960, and this became the version of the game we know today. In this game the players travel in plastic cars and land on spaces with different instructions on them. In the end, everyone retires and whoever has the most money wins. Which game is this?

Answer: The Game of Life

A more recent update to the game rewards players for things such as recycling. It is also part of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History (from Wikipedia).
2. This game was originally made by Parker Brothers in 1975. Which board game requires players to budget the money they receive at the end of each month in order to pay their bills and other expenses?

Answer: Pay Day

Each Pay Day month has 31 days in it. If you can't pay your bills at the end of the month you can take out loans. At the end of the game, whoever has the most money, or the least loans, wins the game!
3. Which strategy game involves two players taking turns moving their numbered pieces in an attempt to capture the other player's flag?

Answer: Stratego

The goal in Stratego is to capture the other player's flag. But to get to the flag, you must get through the other player's pieces that defend it. The number on each piece refers to its rank. If you move your piece into a square with an opposing player's piece, the lower number captures the higher number. For example, if I have a 6 and you have a 4, you would capture my piece.
4. In this game of deduction each player chooses a person and they take turns guessing traits about that person until they are able to figure out who the other person has. What board game is this?

Answer: Guess Who?

Each player gets a board with all the characters on it. As you rule out characteristics, you knock down the characters on your board that have that trait until you limit it to one person left.
5. This is one of the most popular board games of all time. It involves buying property and trying to make the other players bankrupt until you're the last one left. Which game is this?

Answer: Monopoly

The original version had properties named after places in Atlantic City, New Jersey. There are now versions for practically every big city, as well as styles such as Star Wars Monopoly and Disney Monopoly.
6. In this game, players use squares with letters on them to try and make words. Each player gets seven letters at a time and points are given based on the letters used in each word. Which board game is this?

Answer: Scrabble

Scrabble is also one of the most popular board games of all time. There are a few special spaces in the game that add to your score. Some double or triple the letter that lands on them while others double or triple the entire score of the word.
7. Which board game involves collecting colored "pies" by answering general knowledge or popular culture questions?

Answer: Trivial Pursuit

When a player has collected all 6 colored pies, he must then go to the center of the board and answer a final question. If the player gets it right, he or she wins. But if they get it wrong, they have to wait another turn in order to try again. The fill in the blank wasn't to trick you.

The question was a little too easy for multiple choice and I wanted to make it a little more challenging.
8. In this board game, made by Milton Bradley in 1965, players surgically remove the body parts of a very unhappy patient, collecting money each time they are successful. But if they aren't, the patient's nose flashes and they have to wait for the next turn to try again. Which game is this?

Answer: operation

Sam the patient has 12 different body parts that can be removed using a pair of tweezers. There is also a Simpson's version where the players operate on Homer.
9. This game is for two players and the ultimate goal is to capture your opponent's king. Different pieces on the board can move in different ways and when an opposing player's piece is within the movement of one of your pieces you can capture it. What game is this?

Answer: Chess

Chess is one of the world's most popular games. You capture your opponent's king when you corner it with no place left to go (called "checkmate").
10. Which board game involves drawing different objects while your teammate tries to guess what it is?

Answer: Pictionary

Whenever I play this game with my friends we just forget about the time limit and think of the hardest words possible. Pictionary was also made into a TV show once or twice.
