It is the oil-rich province of Canada. Edmonton is the capital city. Calgary, home of the famous Calgary Stampede, is the most populous.
2. Which Canadian province is largest in area?

Answer: Quebec

With over 1 300 000 km^2, it is much larger than British Columbia's 930 000 km^2 or Ontario's 890 000 km^2

Answer: 2/5

Over 3.7 million km^2 out of over 9 million km^2 = 39/100 or nearly 2/5
Mining is the main activity found here. A cold climate and permafrost do not allow much agriculture to be carried on in these remote areas which are also very sparsely populated.
4. Prince Edward Island, or PEI, is the smallest province in Canada, but is New Brunswick the second smallest province in area?

Answer: no

Nova Scotia is the second smallest province in Canada. Halifax is the capital city. Lobster fisheries and apple orchards are major activities of Nova Scotia. These three provinces are called Canada's Maritime Provinces.
5. Which province extends furthest north?

Answer: Quebec

Ungava Peninsula in Quebec extends north past 62 degrees N. The northern part of the province is quite a remote area with virtually no population.

Yukon is a territory, not a province, so it can't be the correct answer.
6. Which province extends furthest south?

Answer: Ontario

Point Pelee and Pelee Island are the most southern inhabited locations in the province of Ontario, and the country, and are found on Lake Erie.
Ontario is the most populous province, with most people living in the small southern area surrounded by the lower three Great Lakes.
Windsor, Ontario borders Detroit, Michigan at the western end of Lake Erie and Fort Erie, Ontario borders Buffalo, New York at the eastern end. These two Canada/US border crossings are the busiest in the country.
7. How many provinces do not border the USA?

Answer: 3

Nova Scotia, PEI, and Newfoundland do not share a border with the USA.
Ontario is the only province in Canada that is separated from the US almost entirely by bodies of water.
8. Only the provinces of Ontario and those to the east have land that extends south of the 49th parallel.

Answer: False

Vancouver Island, part of the province of B.C., extends south of the 49th parallel. Victoria is the capital city of BC and is located on Vancouver Island. A regular ferry service shuttles people and vehicles to and from the mainland.
9. According to Statistics Canada, which of these areas of Canada decreased in population between the years 2003 and 2007?

Answer: Newfoundland

Newfoundland's population decreased by 12 000 over those years. A depressed economy has caused many to leave the island to seek better job opportunities on the mainland.

Quebec's population increased by over 200 000, the Territories by 2 700 and Saskatchewan only 2 000.
10. Canada has a great supply of fresh water in its lakes. According to Natural Resources Canada statistics, which province or territory has the largest measured surface area of fresh water? (Great Lakes not included)

Answer: Quebec

Quebec has 176 900 km^2
Northwest Territory has 163 000 km^2
Ontario has 158 600 km^2
Nunavut has 157 000 km^2

These northern lakes and rivers are popular not only with Canadian sport fishermen but those from other countries as well. Remote hunting and fishing lodges which are accessible only by sea plane ensure ideal conditions.
