Answer: Gulls

There are lots of different kinds of gulls and they are often referred to as 'seagulls' because they mainly live on the coast. Some have made their way inland as well. The most common type of gull in the United Kingdom is the herring gull, which has a white head and lower body with a grey back and wings.

Soup, hot dogs and pizza are hot foods, so I would choose a nice cold icecream. Another hot food which is traditional at the seaside in the United Kingdom is fish and chips, which are sold wrapped up in paper. You have to watch out for the gulls, though, as they have learned to steal chips from visitors.

Answer: Crabs

It is best to have a net to catch crabs with as they have pincers which can hurt if they nip you. You should always let the crabs go again after you've looked at them. Other things you can find in rock pools are sea anemones, sea snails and limpets.

Answer: Sand

Sand is made from rock, coral and shells which get broken up by the force of the ocean waves. Even we contribute by walking on the beach and breaking up the particules even more. Some beaches are made from pebbles where the waves and the land formation is too weak to break them up into sand.

Although you can find all the options on most beaches, sand is the best thing to use for building castles.

Answer: Donkeys

Many beaches offer donkey rides, although they are not as common as they once were. Some of the beaches where donkeys can still be found in 2011 are Blackpool in Lancashire, Weston-Super-Mare in Somerset and Weymouth in Dorset. Although you can ride on the other animals listed, you don't usually see them on a beach.

Answer: White

Seaweed is divided into three categories, usually known as red, brown and green. Some kinds can be eaten, particularly in the countries of East Asia, such as Japan, Vietnam and Thailand. Even in the UK seaweed is eaten, with Wales using a particular type mixed with oats to make laverbread.

There are many other colours of seaweed, including white, but it is not one of the scientific divisions.

Answer: Sugar

This confection is called candy floss in the UK and cotton candy in the USA. It is made from spun sugar, which has lots of air in it, and is wrapped around a wooden stick. It is often coloured pink, but you shouldn't eat too much of it as it is very bad for your teeth.

Answer: Paddling

Paddling does have other meanings, such as propelling a canoe through water, but it also means walking in the shallow water where the waves come on to the beach. You have to be careful, though, because the water can come in quickly and make you much wetter than you want to be. Waddling describes the way that ducks walk and muddling means getting things confused. Cuddling is what you do when you hug another person or a pet.

Answer: Jellyfish

Jellyfish are the only real animals from the choices I gave you. They are shaped like mushrooms and do not have a backbone, so they are not really fish. In America they are often referred to just as jellies. An adult jellyfish is known as a Medusa. I just made up the other names so they aren't real animals of any kind.

Answer: Pier

Piers are built out to sea on pillars so that the seawater can go under them. The earliest ones built for pleasure purposes in the United Kingdom were in 1814 and 1821 although they became most popular in Victorian times (1837 to 1901). They often have arcades where you can play amusement machines and some also have booths such as fortune tellers or even theatres. People can also use them for fishing.
