Pogona is a genus within the Amphibolurinae subfamily, which is a subfamily of the Agamidae family. The Agamidae family contains over 300 iguanian lizards, with many of them being named "dragon" in the name of their species. One example is the Chinese water dragon. Difficulty: Hard.

The glass lizards are a species of lizard that resemble snakes because most of them lack legs. You can tell them apart from snakes because of their lizard head, visible eyelids, and external ear openings. Some species of glass lizards have very small stub-like legs reduced to that size because of evolution. Those stubs are also called vestigial organs, meaning that the lizard can no longer use them. Some people even know them as jointed snakes.

These lizards can reach lengths of up to 4 feet or 1.2 meters but two thirds of their whole body length is their long tail. They feed on insects, arachnids, smaller reptiles, and young rodents. Unlike snakes, they cannot unhinge their jaw so they cannot swallow bigger prey items. Most of the glass lizard species lay eggs but some of them give birth to live young. Difficulty: Hard.

Measuring up to twelve inches in length, the leopard gecko is found in the desert regions of Asia, including India and Pakistan. They feed on a variety of things including crickets, worms and small mice.

The southern leaf-tailed gecko is native to Australia, the golden dust day gecko is found in Madagascar, while the common house gecko is native to Southeast Asia. Difficulty: Hard.

The lizards belong to the suborder Lacertilia. Members of the Lacertilia suborder can be classified as either Iguania, Gekkota, Amphisbaenia or Autarchoglossa.

The term "Sauria" was coined in the early 19th century by scientists James Macartney and Alexandre Brongniart to originally describe an order of reptiles containing lizards and crocodilians. Eventually the term "Sauria" evolved to become a synonym for the taxonomic name Lacertilia.

The yellow spotted lizard's skin color is typically dark brown or black, which makes their spots their most highlighted quality. Their underbellies are a pale yellow. Of course, the Geico gecko is an anthropomorphic version of a gecko made to seem more human-like in its characteristics. Gecko's can't really talk... honestly!

Day geckos are of the genus Phelsuma, and are named day geckos because, unlike most geckos, they are more active during the daytime. Many species of day gecko are bright green with splashes of red and/or blue on them. Due to their vivid colors, they are a popular pet choice.

There are many species of gecko that can be found at your local pet store. Among the most popular choices are leopard geckos and crested geckos. Difficulty: Hard.

Draco lizards, also known as "flying dragons", actually glide by means of a wing-like membrane that extends from their elongated ribs. Native to Southeast Asia, the small lizards (at up to eight inches/twenty centimeters in length) can manage glides of up to thirty feet/nine meters (although one source I found credited them with "flights" of up to nearly 200 feet/60 meters). The lizards are almost exclusively arboreal, although the females will descend to the ground to lay eggs. Incidentally, there are other species of gliding lizards, including several types of geckos. Because of this, marine iguanas are sometimes called Galapagos marine iguanas. Marine iguanas are very clumsy on land. When Charles Darwin first spotted marine iguanas he described them as "disgusting clumsy lizards." Difficulty: Easy.

Most Komodo dragons inhabit the Komodo national park on the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Padar and Rinca. The national park is also home to many species of deer, boar and marine life that thrive in the boundaries. Difficulty: Hard.

Bearded dragons are found in the wild throughout most of Australia. As bearded dragons are cold-blooded, meaning that they rely on external sources to keep their body safely heated, they prefer warm, dry areas, such as deserts, scrublands, savannahs etc. Difficulty: Easy.

A group of herpetologists took shelter in some caves during a hurricane, and upon emerging from the caves, discovered a crested gecko outside it. Difficulty: Hard.

The aptly named blue-tongue lizard is one of the larger skink species, and is comparable in size to many species of dragons. Goannas (monitor lizards) are typically much larger. Chameleons are not native to Australia. Difficulty: Hard.

The Gila monster is found in the southwestern United States and the northwest of Mexico. Although venomous, it is heavy and slow-moving and therefore poses little threat to humans. Difficulty: Very Easy.

The bearded dragon is a species of lizard coming from most parts of Australia. They are frequently kept as pets and displayed in zoos because of their calm nature. Although calm as pets, in the wild these lizards are very aggressive. When threatened, the dragon puffs out its whole body, including the "beard", turns completely black, and opens its hissing mouth to show the yellow color, hoping to scare away the predator. If that doesn't work, the dragon will either try to run away as fast as possible or try to bite the attacker with its small but sharp teeth. Bearded dragons are skilled climbers, and often spend their time resting or basking on tree stumps and fence posts. Difficulty: Hard.

There are 160 different species of chameleons. They are found in many regions including Africa, Europe, Asia and Madagascar.

Chameleons have three different types of chromatophores in their skin: Xanthophores which contain red and yellow pigments; Iridophores which contain colourless platelets; and melanophores which contain black pigment. Colour change occurs through the movement of "packets" of pigment in the melanophores. Difficulty: Very Easy.

Lizards can live in deserts, temperate forests, rainforests, prairies, marshes, streams, subterranean burrows or rocky outcrops. Most lizards live on the ground or in trees. The only places that don't serve as habitats for lizards are strictly aquatic or aerial environments and polar regions containing ice sheets, such as the continent Antarctica.

Another name for the Komodo dragon is 'biawak raksasa', or 'giant monitor'. This is more apt for the Komodo dragon, as it is part of the Varanidae family, which includes the monitor lizards. Difficulty: Hard.

Komodo dragons prefer hot and dry terrain, thus are often found in open grassland, savannah, and tropical forest. They are mostly active during the daytime, and are largely solitary creatures.

An adult Komodo dragon in the wild typically grows to about 150 pounds (70 kg) in weight, and the largest ever (verified) wild Komodo dragon was measured at 10 feet 3 inches (3.13 m) in length and weighed 370 pounds (166 kg). In the wild, Komodo dragons can live anywhere between 30 and 50 years, if not prematurely killed. Difficulty: Hard.

Usually Australia is the shoo-in answer for venomous creatures, but in the case of these lizards, they're found in North America. The Gila monster and the Mexican beaded lizard are the two species in the genus Heloderma, and they're found in the southwestern United States down to northern Central America. Although these lizards were long believed to be the only venomous lizards on the planet, researchers now believe that some other lizard species, including monitors and iguanas, also produce venom. Yellow spotted lizards hide in rotten logs or under decaying leaves on the forest floor. These lizards also use their small size to squeeze beneath rocks or inside crevices. Covered in spikes and with a bizarre appendage sometimes called a false head, the thorny devil derives its scientific name, Moloch horridus, from the Canaanite god Moloch, described in "Paradise Lost" as a horrible king smeared with the blood of human sacrifice. Living in the Australian interior, the thorny devil subsists on a diet of ants, consuming thousands of them every day. Difficulty: Easy.

The leopard gecko is a crepuscular (active at twilight hours) ground-dwelling lizard coming from Afghanistan and parts of northern India. Most people know geckos as wall climbers but the leopard gecko stays on the ground because their feet aren't specialised for climbing. The leopard gecko is also very popular as a pet because of how easy it is to care for one. These lizards are fully insectivorous, meaning that they only eat insects and they would become sick if given a vegetable. Leopard geckos in the wild are found in much duller colours than the ones found in captivity. Their color camouflages them from any predators during the night. They sleep through the day.

The membranes that enable the Draco lizards to glide through the air are known as patagial membranes. This is the same name for the similar bodily structures of other animals known to glide, such as flying squirrels, as well as bats, who actually do fly with their patagial membranes. Glass lizards are a type of legless lizard. They differ from snakes in that they have elongated heads, movable eyelids and external ears.
