Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Rafe Judkins, who placed third on "Survivor: Guatemala", would go on to showrun what Amazon Prime Video fantasy series?

Answer: The Wheel of Time

Rafe made it to the final three in "Survivor's" eleventh season, but after losing a fourth Immunity Challenge on Day 38, eventual winner Danni Boatwright sent him to the jury, believing him to be the bigger threat in the final vote. Rafe would be the only one to vote for her competition, Stephenie LaGrossa.

It would be another sixteen years before "The Wheel of Time", based on the Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson fantasy series, would make it to the small screen, appearing as an Amazon Prime Original Series. Judkins only started screenwriting after his time on "Survivor", acting as part of the writing staff for popular shows like "Chuck" and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.". He would act as lead showrunner for "The Wheel of Time".
2. Perennial "Survivor" contestant Cirie Fields would continue to appear in reality TV, eventually winning the sole grand prize on which Peacock deception series?

Answer: The Traitors

A multiple-time player of "Survivor", Cirie Fields referred to herself early on as "the one who got up off the couch to play 'Survivor'", and it was what allowed her to endear herself to the viewers time and time again. A shrewd social player, she made it far in most of her appearances starting with "Survivor: Panama" in 2006, "Survivor: Micronesia - Fans vs. Favorites" (where she placed third), "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains", and "Survivor: Game Changers" in 2017.

Cirie would also appear in several other network reality TV shows over the years including the deception game show "Snake in the Grass" (which she would co-win with others) and the U.S. version of "The Traitors", which she won as a Traitor in 2022. She and her son would also appear on "Big Brother 25" in 2023; she placed fifth, getting evicted after ninety-three days in the house.
3. "Survivor: Gabon" contestant Ken Hoang joined Team Liquid after his time on the show, excelling in which field?

Answer: Professional video gaming

Before his time on "Survivor's" seventeenth season, Ken Hoang was one of the most celebrated players of 'Super Smash Bros. Melee" in the world, having won the most prestigious tournaments in North America and Japan (EVO, for instance) and holding onto his reputation well into the 2010s. Considered 'The King of Smash', he would be picked up by Team Liquid in 2014 remaining a player on their otherwise meagre FGC roster into the next decade.

In "Gabon", Ken would make it to the finale episode, placing fifth overall.
4. "Survivor: Nicaragua" runner-up Chase Rice was a musician before and after his time on the show, writing songs for bands like Florida Georgia Line in which genre?

Answer: Country

Formerly a linebacker for University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Rice would turn away from the sport after sustaining an injury and instead head into the music industry, releasing several chart-topping country albums in the U.S. starting with his first, independently, in 2010, just as "Survivor: Nicaragua" started to air. He would place second on "Survivor", losing the million to 'Fabio' in a 5-4-0 vote.

Off the show, his success in the music industry compounded, both as a solo artist and as a songwriter. He would go on to tour with Kenny Chesney and Old Dominion, amongst others.
5. Matt Elrod competed on "Survivor: Redemption Island" in 2011, but afterwards, he became a TV actor, appearing as Charles Smith on what CW TV drama?

Answer: Riverdale

Not only did Matt Elrod find fame on TV after "Survivor", but he changed his name, taking his middle name and going by Wyatt Nash in Hollywood. "Redemption Island" released in 2010 with Matt becoming the first-ever returnee from Redemption Island. He would be voted out a second time for his efforts, ultimately becoming the sixth jury member and voting for Boston Rob to win the million.

On "Riverdale", Elrod/Nash would take on the recurring role of Jughead's half-brother starting in the later episodes of season three, appearing much more substantially in later seasons of the show. Elrod/Nash would also find great success acting in made-for-TV movies for Lifetime and Hallmark, notably the V. C. Andrews adaptation "Petals on the Wind" on the former network.
6. Jonathan Penner appeared on several seasons of "Survivor", but he also wrote what poorly-received 2017 horror movie?

Answer: The Bye Bye Man

Appearing on three separate seasons of "Survivor" ("Cook Islands", "Micronesia - Fans vs. Favorites", and "Philippines"), Penner had a successful career in entertainment well before having his torch snuffed. He would place seventh in the first and last of those outings; he was evacuated from the game in Micronesia.

Before the show he was primarily an actor, appearing as a guest in episodes of "Seinfeld" and "The Nanny" while leading in "The Naked Truth" and "Rude Awakening". His key writing credit following "Survivor" was for the 2017 horror film "The Bye Bye Man"; his wife, Stacy Title, directed the film. Title would pass away due to ALS in 2021. The pair were working on a TV pilot adaptation of "King Kong" in her later days.
7. Following his win on "Survivor: Caramoan" in 2013, John Cochran found success as a writer for CBS. Which of these shows did he NOT work on?

Answer: Yellowstone

A two-time player of the game, first showing up in "Survivor: South Pacific" and then winning "Caramoan" in season twenty-six, Cochran was a fan favourite during his tenure on the show, even being cited as one of host Jeff Probst's favourite winners. Cochran's interest in TV writing ultimately led him, through Probst, to start working with other CBS staffers, getting him work as a writer for "The Millers".

He would subsequently leverage this to start writing for "Kevin Can Wait" and "Star Trek: Lower Decks" in the years to follow.

Not bad for a Harvard grad.
8. Post-victory, "Survivor: Ghost Island" winner Wendell Holland leveraged his profession to become a TV host for what type of show?

Answer: Home improvement

Appearing on this thirty-sixth season of "Survivor", Wendell would go on to win the million dollars due in part to his strategic gameplay and overall demeanour as a tribe member. Notably, he leveraged his profession as a carpenter to create amenities for the tribes he was on-- everything from furniture to implements, all to make camp life easier.

After the show, the work continued with Wendell joining the HGTV team to co-host "Hot Mess House", about tidy living, in 2020-2021.
9. Before seeing "Survivor: David vs. Goliath" competitor John Hennigan on the show, you would've been able to see him competing in which of the following?

Answer: WWE

Starting in professional wrestling as far back as 2002, Hennigan has been known by dozens of ring names in his long career, often changing to suit the different promotions he's being backed by. Typically, however, he's been seen as John Morrison. Winner of the ECW World Championship, he's also held titles of the Intercontinental Championship in the WWE and several championship titles in the AAA (Lucha Libre) League.

Out of the ring, he's appeared in several TV shows and films as a stunt performer and, due to his career, several WWE-related video games (in which his likeness has been used since 2006). He was eliminated seventh in "Survivor's" thirty-seventh season, the result of two Hidden Immunity Idols shaking up the game.
10. "Survivor: David vs. Goliath" runner-up Mike White was known for having written "School of Rock" and "Nacho Libre" well before his time on the show. He would receive accolades for creating, writing, and directing which HBO anthology series starting in 2021?

Answer: The White Lotus

One of the more successful runners-up of "Survivor", having placed second to Nick Wilson in the show's thirty-seventh season, "Survivor" was actually Mike White's second CBS reality TV show as he appeared with his father, Mel, in both "The Amazing Race 14" and the 'Unfinished Business' eighteenth season, placing fifth and tenth respectively on those.

White was a writer well before those appearances though, having written "Nacho Libre", "School of Rock", "The Good Girl", and "Year of the Dog" before the race. Afterwards, however, he would create, write, and direct the Laura Dern-led HBO series "Enlightened" and, eventually, the critically-renowned "The White Lotus", which would feature several of his "David vs. Goliath" alumni in supporting roles. "The White Lotus" would net White himself several Primetime Emmy Awards.
