Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Bashful
Answer: Dwarf
Bashful is one of the seven dwarfs in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". This was first published by the Brothers Grimm in their 1812 collection of fairy tales just titled "Snow White". The dwarfs weren't given names until a Broadway show in 1912 and these were changed in the 1937 movie to the names we know today.
It was the first Disney animated movie ever produced and has led to theme park attractions, a video game and a Broadway musical. It was the highest grossing film in history at the time and was the basis for all the animated Disney musicals to follow.
Bashful is shy and self-conscious as his name dictates. He is forever blushing and hiding beneath his beard, particularly around Snow White on whom he has a crush - he is known as the romantic dwarf.

It has received multiple awards over the years and with its dozens of expansion packs the company went from strength to strength while many other similar games fell by the wayside.
Firiona Vie is a High Elf princess, the daughter of the King Tearis Thex and Paladin Princess, a notable warrior. There is also a land named after her within the game. She appears on the covers of the expansion packs and is considered the face of "EverQuest".

Trumpkin is part of the Narnian Revolution which restores Prince Caspian to the throne and he stays and serves him for the rest of his life. Caspian knights him as a 'Most Noble Order of the Lion' and when he leaves on the voyage to see Aslan he appoints Trumpkin as his Regent.

Grindelwald later finds and steals the Elder Wand and becomes very powerful. At about 60 he is defeated by Dumbledore in a duel and imprisoned. He remains there for over 50 years until he's killed by Voldemort, who wants to know the whereabouts of the wand.
5. Rumpelstiltskin
Answer: Dwarf
Rumpelstiltskin is the name of a dwarf from one of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales. In the story a father boasts to the king that his daughter can spin straw into gold so the king imprisons her overnight with a bunch of hay and a spinning wheel.
The girl can do no such thing, she is crying when Rumpelstiltskin appears, he offers to do it for her if she will give him her necklace, the night after he does it again for her ring and the last night she has nothing left to give and promises him her first child.
The king marries the girl and she gives birth to a boy. Rumpelstiltskin turns up to get him as she promised and she begs him to keep the boy. He gives her three days to guess his name and if she succeeds he will let her keep the child. Messengers she send out find it on the last day and she gets to keep the baby. In the original version the dwarf tears himself apart in frustration.
Rumpelstiltskin is sometimes referred to as a little man or a gnome but the Grimm Brothers specify him as a dwarf and he is definitely not an elf or a wizard.

8. Merlin
Answer: Wizard
Merlin is the magical wizard from the legends of King Arthur and Camelot. There is so much media in multiple forms surrounding him but the character originated from the 12th century author Geoffrey of Monmouth who is known for being the origin of the Arthurian Legends.
It is believed that he created Merlinus Ambrosius, as he was first called, by combining the stories of two Briton prophets. His background has him being born from a mortal lady and an incubus which is where his powers came from. These original powers were that of prophesy and shapeshifting although he later becomes a wise sage with some magical abilities.
In this version it is he who is responsible for the magic surrounding Arthur's conception and birth and he stays with him for many years as his advisor.
There are many theories on what happened to him in later years but all seem to agree that he fell in love with the Lady of the Lake and that she imprisoned him for a period of time.

11. Arwen Evenstar
Answer: Elf
Arwen is a Rivendell Elf maiden from Tolkien's Middle earth stories. Although she appears in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy her full 'backstory' is written in "The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen", in Appendix A of the six appendices that Tolkein wrote in what he referred to as his 'legendarium'.
She is an Elf Princess - daughter of Elrond, Lord of Rivendell, and Celebrian. She falls in love with Aragorn, the rightful king of Gondor and the two eventually marry. Her choice to become mortal and forsake her Elvan immortality is consistent with Tolkien's themes of love and sacrifice.
After the War they reign as King and Queen of Gondor and Arnor and of the Reunited Kingdom of Elves and Men for 120 years until Aragorn's death. Arwen died a year later and they were succeeded by their son Eldarion.
12. Catweazle
Answer: Wizard
"Catweazle" is a British children's TV show that premiered in 1970. It begins in the 11th century when he is running from some soldiers through the woods with only his magic amulet, a knife charm he wore around his neck, and his familiar - a toad named Touchwood. He says a spell and jumps into a pond and climbs out 900 years in the future.
This is about one of the only spells that ever works properly! His catchphrase was always "Nothing works" after another failed attempt at one although he is able to use the amulet to hypnotise people into forgetting they saw him.
He lands on a farm in country England and makes friends with the son of the family named Edward Bennet, known as Carrot because of his ginger hair. Catweazle lives in an abandoned water tower with Touchwood while he tries to find a way back to his own time. He is convinced that all modern technology is some sort of powerful magic.
The first season ran for 13 episodes and he managed to return home in the last one. They then made a second season, also with 13 episodes, where he returns again to modern day England but to a different place and a different boy.
13. Gimli
Answer: Dwarf
Gimli is another character from Tolkien's Middle Earth, this time a dwarf. He appears in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy but is also the son of Gloin, a hero from "The Hobbit".
Gimli represents the dwarves in the Fellowship of the Ring so is a major character in the trilogy and the events throughout it. As a dwarf warrior he is known for his bravery, loyalty and skill in battle particularly with his axe. His prowess in combat is vital in various battles particularly the defence of Helms Deep in "The Two Towers."
But even more importantly, perhaps, is his sense of humour and comradeship. He develops a strong friendship with Legolas, an elf, despite a deep historical rivalry between the two groups and is notable in bridging the gap between them. This overcoming of prejudice is a strong theme within the novels. He serves as a symbol of unity, friendship, and determination within the Fellowship.
14. Oscar Zoroaster Diggs
Answer: Wizard
This gentleman's full name is actually Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs - more commonly known as the 'Wizard of Oz'. Originally a self-titled novel by L. Frank Baum it became a stage play, a 1939 movie and the basis for the musical 'Wicked".
This wizard is not actually a real wizard. He was originally a magician for a circus who wrote his name (first two initials) on the side of his hot air balloon and ended up sailing into the Land of Oz where they believed him to be a great sorcerer and made him the Supreme Ruler of the Kingdom.
He manages to keep up the pretence by using numerous props and magic tricks to fool the citizens. After being unmasked by Dorothy and her friends he agrees to take Dorothy home in his balloon. At the last minute Toto jumps out of the basket and Dorothy runs after him while the 'wizard' flies off on his own.
The pair reunite in the fourth of the fourteen books that Baum wrote about Oz, "Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz". The majority of this book does not actually take place in Oz but they are there at the end and the 'wizard' decides to stay.
15. Kreacher
Answer: Elf
Kreacher is a house-elf from "Harry Potter". Originally belonging to the Black family he was particularly devoted to Regulus Black but thoroughly disliked Sirius, a feeling that was more than mutual. As Harry inherited everything from him when he died he also inherited Kreacher. Kreacher and Harry also began their relationship on very bumpy ground but after Harry actually shows him some kindness Kreacher actually responds and becomes a devoted servant.
House-elfs belong to great wizarding families and must follow their orders unless they are freed by being given clothing. They are magical in their own right although they don't possess wands or spells.
Kreacher leads the house-elves into the battle against the Death Eaters at Hogwarts and fights for both Harry and Regulus who, while he was a Death Eater himself, was killed fighting Voldemort.
He is known to have survived the battle as he is mentioned afterwards at the end of the book by Harry. J. K. Rowling has also stated that he lived but that he dies before 'The Cursed Child' takes place.
