Milton Hershey bought land in Pennsylvania in 1903 and soon began constructing a chocolate factory. Quickly, a factory town sprung up as employees were hired to work at the company. In 1905, Milton decided to utilize some of his land for a small park where the employees could go and relax from a rigorous work day.

It was named Hershey Park. People immediately utilized it and a pavilion was built and walkways put down before a grand opening in 1906. Over the years, more and more additions came to the park before it became a large theme park in the 1970s and its name changed to one word instead of two.

The Wild Cat was a joint venture between Milton Hershey and the Philadelphia Toboggan Company (PTC). Hershey leased the land to PTC and they operated the wooden roller coaster. It was constructed in honor of the town of Hershey and its 20 year anniversary.

The ride was very popular with hills and the coaster going through a tunnel. It operated through 1945 when it was torn down and its wood donated to the United States' war effort. In 1996 a new coaster was added called Wildcat (one word) in honor of this original one.
