Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Jabberwocky was written by Lewis Carroll and was first seen in his book "Through the Looking Glass". This was the second and final book by Carroll in the "Alice" Series, the first one being "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland".

When Alice first finds the book that has the poem in it, she has only recently entered a strange world through a mirror (or looking glass). When she picks up the book the words are impossible to read because they are written backward, like you would see in a mirror. She finds a new mirror and holds the book up and can read the words. Even though she can now do so, she doesn't really understand what they are saying. She asks Humpty Dumpty to help her understand the poem, but his explanations do not really help her to understand the poem any better.

Jabberwocky is what is called a "nonsense poem" and many of the words are ones that Carroll just made up himself. However, you might actually recognize a few of them because they have become regular English words even though they started as nonsense. A few of the main ones are:

Chortled - a mixture of "chuckle" and "snort"
Galumph - possibly a mix of "gallop" and "triumph", but now it means to walk with heavy feet
Bandersnatch - A monster in this poem, but also used in a Netflilx interactive horror movie
Burble - A word that we use for making a bubbling sound

I hope you enjoyed both taking this quiz and reading the weirdness of this poem. This was the first poem I ever memorized and I can still remember it. I wonder if you want to give it a try?
