"E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" was directed by Steven Spielberg. Released in 1982 it was 7 year old Barrymore's second movie and became a cultural phenomenon as well as launching her successful career in the entertainment industry.

The film follows a young boy named Elliott, who befriends a stranded alien affectionately named E.T. Together with his family and friends he embarks on a heart-warming and emotional journey to help E.T. return home.

Barrymore plays his younger sister Gertie, in a film filled with magical moments and a powerful message of friendship and acceptance.
2. Firestarter

"Firestarter", directed by Mark L. Lester and released in 1984, was a science fiction horror movie based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King.

The movie centers on Charlie McGee, a young girl with pyrokinetic powers, who is on the run with her father from a secret government agency called 'The Shop', that wants to exploit them.

Barrymore was praised for this starring role where she was able to combine both vulnerability and intense power at only 9 years of age.

Entering the school undercover Josie is convinced things will be different than her high school years, but she finds not much has changed and she is still subject to the same teenage angst, trying to find her own place while still trying to fit in with the popular kids.
